
Panhandle passes test against Abernathy
The new division split in the UIL playoffs has brought on some big-time matchups earlier than expected and that was the case for two of the best-in-Class 2A Division I when Panhandle and Abernathy squared off in Dimmitt during a regional quarterfinal clash Thursday night.
In a game that lived up to the billing, Panhandle used a big third quarter which was enough to get by a very talented Abernathy team 53-47.
The Ettes pick up their 30th win on the year moving to 30-3 overall and are headed to the regional semifinals to take on Ballinger (22-10) at a time in place to be determined. The Lady Antelopes end a very good year at 26-9.
Panhandle and Abernathy went back-and-forth with the Lady Antelopes leading 28-27 at the break. It was the third quarter where the Ettes made their move going on a 17-7 run over those eight minute to go up 44-35. That was enough to propel Panhandle to the victory.
Standout Riley Segura led the Ettes with 19 points. Teammate Ann Garrison added 13. McCailin Marshall did her part scoring a game-high 27.

Pampa makes school history
The Pampa Lady Harvesters made school history during a 70-33 blowout Class 4A Division II playoff win against Clint in Andrews on Friday night.
For the first time in program history the Lady Harvesters have won two postseason gold balls and will now make their first appearance in a regional semifinal.
Pampa (13-22) has been hot down the stretch and hopes to continue that when they move on to face Brock (24-9) at a time and place to be determined.
The Lady Harvesters opened the game up from the start never allowing Clint in the game. Berlin Bartlett was on point scoring a game-high 21 points with teammate Cambree Dyer adding 18.

Thursday and Friday’s top performers
Abby McCreary of Happy played a huge factor in helping the Cowgirls pull away from Claude down the stretch 48-35 finishing the night with 19 points.
The Randall duo of Sadie Sanchez and Layla Romero combined for 47 points as the Lady Raiders dismantled Clint Mountain View 88-28 in the regional quarterfinal round. Sanchez went off for a game-high 25 with Romero adding 22.
San Jacinto Christian Academy got off on the right foot to open the TAPPS Class 2A playoffs defeating Wichita Christian 58-19 at home on Thursday. Standout Harlie Brabham paced the Lady Patriots with a game-high 22 points.
Jaylee Moss and Kambrie Graser assured Canyon a trip back to the regional semifinals. Moss poured in a game-high 21 with Graser going for 19 during a Lady Eagles 59-35 victory against El Paso Riverside.
Bella Edwards and Kam Soukup combined for 25 points to get Amarillo High back to the Class 5A Division I regional semifinals during a 54-37 win against El Paso Americas. Edwards scored a team-high 13 with Soukup adding 12.
Tascosa kept on rolling behind Tryssa Dowd’s 16 points in a 58-10 blowout of El Paso Chapin.
Dalhart downed Denver City 52-33 to move on to the third round of the playoffs. Joie Read was a key cog in the win for the Lady Wolves scoring a team-best 17 points.
Farwell kept on rolling as the Lady Blue eased past Vega 68-34. Makylee Baldwin did her job and then some registering a game-high 21 points.
Clarendon picked up a huge win in the second round defeating New Home 43-31. Kashlyn Conkin and Kenidee Hayes helped lift the Lady Broncos to victory combining for 27 points. Conkin tallied a team-high 15 with Hayes going for 12.
Kenadee Black dropped in 16 points in a Kress 52-12 thumping against Booker. The Lady Roos made school history as well Friday advancing to the Class 1A Division I semifinals for the first time in school history.
Nazareth was tested by McLean but the Swiftettes were able to pull away for a 64-36 win to move on to the third round of the playoffs. Brooklyn Birkenfeld dropped in a game-high 22 to lead Nazareth.
Texline’s Jada Clay continued her great play scoring 13 points during a 49-19 second round win against White Deer.
