District 3-5A sweeps

District 3-5A made a clear statement by sweeping District 4-5A out of the playoffs on Monday and Tuesday night.

The Palo Duro Dons got it started by beating Lubbock Monterey 73-71 on Monday, then Amarillo High, Tascosa and Randall all followed.

The No. 4-ranked Sandies opened the bidistrict round in fine fashion with a 56-29 victory over Lubbock Cooper in Dimmitt. Tascosa knocked off Abilene Wylie 56-47 in Childress, and Randall, a No. 4-seed, stunned district champion, Abilene Wylie, 46-45 in Post.

Dumas makes history

Dumas broke a half a century skid with a milestone playoff win pummeling Levelland 69-39 in a Class 4A Bidistrict round clash in Vega on Tuesday.

The victory was a monumental one for the Demons, as they captured their first gold ball since 1971.

Cristian Kelso did the damage against the Lobos putting up a game-high 22 points.

Dumas (25-6) looks for more history when they face San Elizario in the Area round at 6 p.m. Friday in Andrews.

Tuesday’s top performers

Tulia’s Travon McCaslin torched Spearman for 37 points to lead the Hornets to a 67-42 victory.

Gruver’s Colton Millsap had a team-high 20 points during the Greyhounds 77-57 win over Shamrock.

Joshua Booth of Hedley had an impressive night pouring in 31 points that lifted the Owls past Miami 68-55.
