Gruver downs Ettes to stay unbeaten
The Gruver Lady Hounds avenged a loss to Panhandle and stayed unbeaten in the process thanks to a 50-32 win in a Class 2A Regional Quarterfinal showdown at the Dumas Gym on Tuesday night.
The No. 1-ranked Lady Hounds continue their stellar play moving to an impressive 29-0 overall, and will now meet up with New Home (29-6) in a Region I-2A Tournament semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday at South Plains College in Levelland.
Panhandle, the District 2-2A champions, end its season at 27-9.
Gruver opened the game up in the second quarter. Leading just 13-9 after the first quarter, the Lady Hounds went on an 11-2 run to take a commanding 24-11 lead into halftime.
Texas Tech signee and Gruver standout guard Bailey Maupin poured in a game-high 24 points. Teammate Brenna Butler was a nice compliment with 12. Panhandle’s Kate Kuehler scored a team-best 14.

Wellington is regional tourney bound
The Wellington Lady Skyrockets had no problems beating District 2-2A rival Clarendon once again, this time 55-23 in a Class 2A Regional Quarterfinal in Childress on Tuesday.
The No. 10-ranked Lady Skyrockets beat the Lady Broncos in all three meetings this season.
Senior standout Kyla Kane couldn’t be stopped dropping in a game-high 25 for Wellington. Teammate Asia Shrubs chipped in with 10.
Wellington runs its record to 28-7 overall and will now meet Ropes (29-5) in a Region I-2A semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday at South Plains College in Levelland.
Clarendon ends its year at 21-16.

Class 5A
Randall girls fall to Monterey
A bounceback season for Randall ended in tough fashion, as the Lady Raiders fell behind early and lost to Lubbock Monterey 74-47 at Littlefield.
Randall, who lost all but one district game last season but came back to finish second in tough District 3-5A this year, finished the season 23-13.
Monterey (29-8) took a 22-11 lead in the first quarter and the Lady Raiders couldn’t get that close the rest of the way. The Lady Plainsmen pulled away by outscoring Randall 21-7 in the fourth quarter.
Kailee Benton led Randall with 11 points and Leah Garcia had 10. Aaliyah Chavez had 28 and Kelly Mora added 16 for Monterey, who is headed to the Region I-5A tournament in Wichita Falls starting Friday at 6 p.m. following the Amarillo High-Mansfield Timberview game.

Class 4A
Canyon girls survive OT, beat Levelland
In their storied history, it might be hard to find a playoff victory that had more grit than what the Canyon Lady Eagles showed against Levelland.
After enduring something they’ve inflicted on many teams in the past, a scoreless quarter, the Lady Eagles slugged it out defensively against Levelland at Plainview’s Hutcherson Center. A late steal and bucket forced overtime before Canyon discovered some offense in the extra period to pull out a 44-37 victory.
Canyon (28-5) will play in the region semifinals against No. 1 Argyle (35-0) at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University.
The Lady Eagles went scoreless in the second quarter, but thanks the their customarily tough defense, trailed only 26-24 in the final minute. That’s when Whitney Willeford stole an inbounds pass and scored on a layup to tie it, forcing overtime.
Canyon’s Taylor Thomas took over from there. She scored 13 points in overtime on two 3-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws to carry the Lady Eagles.
Abree Winfrey added 11 points for Canyon.

Class 3A
Idalou beats down Bushland
Idalou proved too much for Bushland, ending the Lady Falcons season in the Class 3A Regional Quarterfinals 70-38 on Tuesday night in Abernathy.
Bushland ends a great season at 24-8 overall. The No. 8-ranked Lady Wildcats advance to the Region I-3A Tournament to play Peaster (34-4) in a semifinal round matchup at 6 p.m. Friday in Frenship.
Logan Heard was a mismatch for the Lady Falcons scoring a game-high 29 points.
Ellie Frye led Bushland with 11, while teammate Emma Troxell added eight.

Class 1A
Nazareth throttles Springlake-Earth
The Nazareth Swiftettes are once again headed to the Region I-1A Regionals Tournament.
Nazareth dismantled Spring-Lake Earth 63-26 in a regional quarterfinal contest on Tuesday night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
It was a fast start for the Swiftettes as Iris Shilderink got things going with a hook shot in the paint for the Swiftettes after a couple defensive stops. Teammate Addie Dyer helped out with a 3-pointer, and just like that, Nazareth opened the game on a 7-0 run.
The Swiftettes defense was suffocating all night long keeping sophomore speedster Tatum Goodman off of the scoreboard . With Goodman out of the equation, the Lady Wolverines forced their way down low to Sayler Beerwinkle. Beerwinkle finished her night with 16 points.
Nazareth showed a balanced attack. Presley Wheeler led the way with 13 points off the bench. With Schilderink in foul trouble, the inside work fell into the hands of Tatum Peterson, who took over in the paint area pouring in 12 points in the contest.
The No. 2-ranked Swiftettes (23-11) now get a showdown with No. 1-Sands (33-3) in a regional semifinal at 1 p.m. Friday at South Plains College in Levelland.
Sands won an overtime thriller over Nazereth 43-42 in November.

Valley cruises into regional tourney
The Valley Lady Patriots brought an end to an epic Miami season with a convincing 60-24 win over the Warriors in a Class 1A Regional Quarterfinal game Tuesday night in Pampa.
The Lady Patriots exploded on a 27-5 run midway through the first quarter all the way to halftime taking a 37-11 lead.
Reese Cruse was a major key to the success of the first half for Valley as she found all of her 14 points in the first two quarters. Trinity Schlueter matched Cruse’s effort with 14 points.
Valley (23-4) will play Borden County (21-7) in a
Region I-1A semifinal at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at South Plains College in Levelland.
