It was a huge night for the Bushland track and field teams as both the Falcons and Lady Falcons came away with District 1-3A Track and Field championships Saturday at Falcons Stadium in Bushland.
Despite windy conditions, the Bushland girls stacked up 224.5 points gaining 60 of those points by sweeping all three relay events.
The Lady Falcons opened the running finals winning the 400 meter relay behind Ellie Frye, Kenley King, Bayleigh Eason and Jesse Fowler. The foursome clocked a 49.64. The 800 meter relay of Caitlyn Culwell, Sloane Hale, Peyton Baldridge, and Leah Ruthardt had a gold medal time of 1:45.90, as the 1600 meter squad made up of Frye, King, Hale, and Joscelin Watson ran a 4:10.33 to complete the sweep of all three relay events. Fry also took gold in the 400 meter dash with a 1:00.99. There were some impressive individual performances during the meet on the girls side. Canadian’s Samantha Krehbiel went double gold with victories in the 100 meter dash (12.57) and the 200 meter dash with a new season-best 25.56. Krehbiel’s teammate Konnar McClendon won the 3200 and 1600 meter district championships. McClendon ran a 12:17.88 in the 3200, and a 5:45.57 in the 1600 meter run.
Spearman’s Braylen Lusby found the gold medal stand twice winning the 800 meter run (2:28.23), followed by a 300-meter hurdle district championship with a time of 47.83.
On the boys side, Bushland racked up 197 points for the district championship.
The Falcons dominated the field events. Senior Kash Bradley popped off a season-best 22-10 to win the long jump, and earned silver in the triple jump (42-9 3/4). Teammate Carsten Fry won the triple jump with a season-best leap of 44-3 3/4. Eric Grassel’s eye-opening season continues for the Falcons clearing 16-2 to grab gold in the pole vault, Baylor King won the high jump (5-10), and Sebastian De La Espriella took gold in the shot put with a personal-best 49-9 1/2, and Matthew Bridges is headed to the area round winning the discus event (136-10 1/2).
Spearman senior and University of Texas football signee, Brenen Thompson went triple gold blazing a 21.66 to win the 200 meter dash, ran a 10.68 to grab a victory in the 100 meter dash, and was a part of Spearman’s 800 meter relay gold medal squad (1:31.16).
River Road’s Crawford Kiser was equally impressive racking up three gold medals by sweeping the long distance events. Kiser clocked a 10:08.96 in the 3200 meter run, won the 800 meter run with a 2:03.11, and advanced to area in the 1600 meter run with a gold medal time of 4:43.42.
The top four individuals advance to the District 1-3A/ 2-3A Area Track and Field meet set for April 14 in Tulia.

District 2-3A
The Childress boys are the District 2-3A Track and Field champions after scoring a total of 145 points on Thursday and Friday in Abernathy.
The Bobcats 1600 meter relay squad of Mark Willis, Lamont Nickelberry, Darren Pratt and Jacob Daniel blazed to a season-best time of 3:28.90 for the gold medal. Nickelberry also won triple jump leaping 42-feet-6 inches, and took a silver as well as bronze in the 400 and 800 meter relays. Teammate Stone Smith also saw a successful day claiming district titles in the discus and shot put events. Smith tossed a 145-5 1/2 in the discus and a 47-11 in the shot put.
The Childress Lady Bobcats placed second behind Shallowater (183.5 points) tallying 146.5 points.
The 1600 meter relay team consisting of A’Lysati Cornish, Clarissa Gamboa, Chloe Churchill and Chloe Carroll punched a ticket to the area round finishing second with a time of 4:10.37.
Churchill also won the 300-meter hurdles clocking a 47.29, and earned second in the triple jump (33-4).
The top four individuals advance to the District 1-3A/ 2-3A Area Track and Field meet set for April 14 in Tulia.

District 2-2A
The Panhandle boys and girls track teams claimed the District 2-2A Track and Field championships on Friday night in Panhandle.
The Ettes dominated racking up 229 points, which was 77 points better than Wellington’s 152 second place points.
Junior Sydney Adee and senior Mackie Land had two solid outings. Adee was a part of the 800 meter relay team that ran a gold medal time of 1:48.96. Adee then won the 300-meter hurdles clocking a 47.17, and finished up with Land on the 1600 meter relay team with Avery Sides and Leah Land that paced a 4:10.34. Land, a Texas Tech signee, also won the 400 meter dash (1:03.11) and set a new season-best time of 24.26 in the 200 meter dash.
Wellington’s Kyla Kane had a superb day earning district championships in both the 800 meter run (2:22.72), and the 1600 meter race (5:27.25).
The Panthers won the boys district championship tallying 189 points to hold off second place Shamrock (147).
Landyn Hack had a magnificent afternoon scoring a total of 63 of Panhandle’s points on his own. The junior started the day gaining gold in the discus (136-4) and a bronze in the shot put (39-11). Hack then took to the final running events in the evening clocking an 11.07 to win the 100 meter dash, and was a part of the 800 and 1600 meter relay teams that were
victorious.
Shamrock’s Caden Peevey put on a display himself. The speedy junior was a part of the 400 meter relay that edged Panhandle to win with a 44.26. Peevey turned on his jets earning two more golds in the 200 meter dash (22.85) and the 400 mete run (52.38).
The top four individuals advance to the District 1-2A/ 2-2A Area Track and Field meet set for April 13 in Stinnett.

District 1-2A
Gruver made it a clean sweep as the boys and girls teams won the District 1-2A Track and Field meet in Sanford-Fritch on Thursday.
The Greyhounds scored 157 points holding off Sanford-Fritch (143) by 14 points.
Gruver’s Michael McCloy won the 300-meter hurdles (44.34), and took silver on the 800 meter relay squad as well as the pole vault event (14-feet). Teammate Pratt McClain won the pole vault clearing 14-6, and found the gold medal stand on the mile relay team (3:41.38).
Brayden Freeman of Fritch earned a pair of gold medals using his speed to win the 100 meter dash (10.98) and the 200 meter dash (23.31).
In girls action, the Gruver Lady Hounds put up 201 points to win the district title. Stratford was second scoring 146 points.
Gruver’s Tyerin Aranda had quite the medal haul. Aranda took gold in the 100 meter dash (13.01), then the 200 meter dash (27.55), and was on the 1600 meter relay winning team (4:17.90). WT High long distance runner
Lula Nolan swept the long distance events. Nolan found the gold medal stand in 3200 meter run (13:18.42), took the 800 meter victory with a 2:34.58, and won the 1600 meter run (5:54.17).
