Drayden Ray, Randall football, Sr.
On the field: The Randall Raiders pulled off quite the win last Friday by rallying back against arch-rival Canyon for a 21-17 victory to win a third straight meeting against the Eagles. Ray was a key component to that win doing whatever was asked of him from head coach Dan Sherwood. Ray finished his tremendous night rushing for 157 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns, including a late go-ahead score with 3:45 to play that eventually gave the Raiders the win. Ray also caught three passes for 15 yards, and had to end the game at quarterback where he delivered a clutch eight-yard pass on a fourth down.
Through eight games, Ray is having a superb season carrying the ball 164 times for 903 yards with 14 TDs. He’s also thrown for 109 yards with two more scores.
Coach Dan Sherwood: “Drayden is doing anything asked of him and he loves his teammates. I’ll bet he’ll be the first to tell you, that he’s not the only one that is asked to do a lot. There is a handful of guys doing what he is doing, but what I love about Drayden is he has a responsibility to carry this team and he takes pride in that. He threw a big fourth pass for us the other night after running the ball. He plays with great confidence and he is one of those selfless leaders that makes sure everyone does their job.”
Ray: “It meant a lot to us to bounce back from Dumas and beat Canyon. We always love to win that game. It’s been a great season for us, and I love that the coaches ask us to do it all and trust us to do the job. We all have a strong relationship with one another. For myself, I just know I have a great offensive line, and they are the reason I’m able to do what I can do.”
