Amarillo private schools put on quite the show highlighting the TAPPS Class 1A state cross country meet Monday at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.
The Holy Cross Catholic Academy Mustangs were the show stealer during the boys 1A race by making school history. The Mustangs tallied a team total of 63 points to win their first ever TAPPS state championship following in the footsteps of what the boys basketball team accomplished last season.
“This was an incredible day for Holy Cross,” HCCA cross country coach Jasmine Doak said. “This has never happened before and it means so much for this team and the school. It’s very humbling and we are blessed. This team has put so much work in and it started in the summer. This is another title to add to the culture being built at Holy Cross.”
Leading the way for the Mustangs was Lorenzo Chase. Chase, a sophomore, placed sixth individually with a time of 18:15.7. Teammate Marcellos Hernandez had a top 10 finish clocking a time of 18:39.9, and Asher Manning scored key points with an 11th place finish (18:53.8).
