
Class 2A
Thanks to two very superb days of competition, the Spearman Lynxettes were able to medal for a second straight year at the UIL Class 2A state girls golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.
The Lynxettes finished with rounds of 342 and 360 for a 36-round score of 702, which was good enough for a silver medal. Mason was the team state champion with a two-day tally of 647.

Sophomore standout Izzabella Slover paced the Lynxettes over the 36-holes. The reigning two-time district champion and two-time Region I-2A champion was solid at state firing a first round 78, followed by an 85 on her final 18 holes for a 163. Teammate Acey Womble was right behind Slover placing 13th overall. Womble carded rounds of 87 and 91 for a 178, and Tessa Holton (87-92 – 179) also landed in the top 20 with a 15th place finish.
Vega took ninth overall with two-day rounds of 423-392 for an 815. DJ Degraaf (100-90 – 190) led the Lady Longhorns.

State quick hits
- While Spearman was the lone Texas Panhandle team to medal at the state golf tournament, there were still some strong performances over the two days from all classifications. The Canyon Lady Eagles were fifth overall during the UIL Class 4A state tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Legends Golf Course in Kingsland. The Lady Eagles fired a team score of 357 on day one and a 335 on Tuesday for a 692. Lauren Robason and teammate Kyla Cortese each finished tied 26th. Robason shot a 36-hole total of 84-84 – 168, and Cortese registered an 89-79 – 168.
- At the UIL Class 5A state tournament, the Amarillo High Lady Sandies came in sixth overall Monday and Tuesday at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown. The Lady Sandies played two very good rounds of golf shooting a first round score of 305 and then a second round 318 for a two-day tally of 623. AHS was only 14 shots behind San Antonio Alamo Heights (604) for a bronze medal. Lady Sandie senior Addison Britten tied for eighth overall. Britten went low on her first 18 with a 72 followed by a 75 for a 147. Britten finished with three total birdies.
- Making their fourth appearance at the UIL Class 3A state tournament in the past five years, the Bushland Lady Falcons are coming home with a sixth place finish at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin. Bushland carded rounds of 372-356 for a 728. Ava Permenter (87-84 – 171) highlighted the Lady Falcons with a 17th overall finish. Individually, Idalou’s Olivia Ortiz (86-78 – 164) was seventh and Shallowater’s Bristyn Cunningham (87-79 – 166) rounded out the top 10.
- Making the school’s first ever appearance at the UIL Class 1A state tournament, the Valley Lady Patriots (465-447 – 912) placed 11th as a team Monday and Tuesday at the Crystal Falls Golf Course in Leander. Sophomore Hartlee Battey went the lowest for Valley with rounds of 96-100 – 196.
- Isabel Britton of Holy Cross Catholic Academy recently won the TAPPS Class 2A individual girls state championship at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco. Though it was cut short due to inclement weather, Britton shot 82-40 – 122, to claim her first career state title.
