Dumas Demons down Borger
Bulldog Stadium played host to a District 3-4A matchup Tuesday night, as the Borger Bulldogs welcomed the Dumas Demons. A strong second half swung the game in favor of the visitors, giving the Demons 3-1 win.
Dumas struck first midway through the opening half, when Isai Rivera found the back of the net to give the Demons a 1-0 lead.
Borger generated opportunities of its own to tie the game, but never capitalized, as Dumas clung to a 1-0 advantage at half.
The second half opened with high intensity on both sides, with 26 minutes remaining, Rivera nearly doubled the Demons advantage as he sent a header off of the corner post. The miss kept Borger within striking distance, and the Bulldogs capitalized moments later.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]With just under 19 minutes left in the contest, Charlie Medina connected with, Noah Dimmit for an equalizer, tying the match at 1–1.
The momentum, however, was short-lived.
Just 20 seconds after the equalizer, Santiago Vega for Dumas responded, with a quick strike to reclaim the lead, going back in front 2–1. The Demons continued to press and put the match away with a little over nine minutes left in the game, as Jancarlo Espinal gave Dumas its third goal of the night, sealing the 3–1 district victory.
Borger battled well, but the Demons timely second half goals were untimely the difference in the District 3-4A showdown. After also capturing an 8-0 win against Canyon on Friday, Dumas now sits at 8-4-3 Overall, 3-0-2 in District play.
The Bulldogs also hosted Hereford on Friday, and came away with a hard fought 2-1 win, to capture their first district win of the season.
Borger wasted little time setting the tone, striking early, just three and a half minutes into the contest, Charlie Medina curled a free kick past the goalie giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage. The rest of the half was tight and competitive, with both sides creating chances but neither team was able to find a goal before the half.
The second half opened with controversy. Less than two minutes in, Hereford was awarded a penalty kick following a tripping call against Borger. The Whitefaces capitalized, converting the kick, to even the score at 1–1.
Borger answered. Eight minutes into the second half Noah Dimmit, rose above the defense and powered home a header, to restore the Bulldogs lead at 2-1. From there the match turned into a battle of will, Hereford pressed for the equalizer, but defensive stands defined the closing stretch, with Borgers keeper, making several key saves to hold the 2-1 lead for the Bulldogs, and secure their first district win of the season.
Borger is 6-9-1 Overall and 1-4 in District, Hereford falls to 4-8 on the season and 0-5 in District play.
On the girls’ side, Happy Bank Stadium hosted The West Plains Lady Wolves and Randall Lady Raiders, for a district match that felt every bit like postseason soccer Friday night, ending in a hard-earned 1–1 tie, after 80 minutes of tightly contested soccer.
Randall wasted no time setting the tone. Just three minutes into the contest, Rylee Bailey connected with Kali French, who found the back of the net, giving the Lady Raiders an early 1–0 advantage.
Randall carried their narrow lead into halftime and continued to hold control deep into the second half, but West Plains never wavered. The Lady Wolves kept pressing, searching for the equalizer, and it finally came.
With just two minutes remaining, Triniti Fernandez delivered the breakthrough, rising above the defense on a perfectly placed corner kick, Fernandez powered home a header to level the match at 1–1.
Neither team could find a winner in the closing moments, as two evenly matched squads finished the night locked in a hard-earned draw. West Plains moves to 10-3-1 on the season, and 4-0-1 in District play, Randall is now 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in District action.
Caprock blanks Plainview
Plainview played host to a District 3-5A matchup as the Bulldogs welcomed the Caprock Longhorns, but it was the visitors who controlled the night, earning a convincing 3–0 victory behind a dominant performance from Luis Davila.
Caprock wasted little time setting the tone. Just seven minutes into the match, Davila found the back of the net to give the Longhorns an early 1–0 lead. The Longhorns maintained steady pressure throughout the opening half, and Davila struck again at the 33-minute mark, doubling the advantage and putting Caprock firmly in control heading into the break.
The second half followed a similar script, with 26 minutes remaining, Davila completed his hat trick with his third goal of the night to extend the lead to 3–0.
Plainview battled throughout but struggled to break through Caprock’s defense, while Davila’s three-goal performance powered Caprock to a strong district road win over the Bulldogs, moving the Longhorns overall record to 10-0-3 and 8-0 in District play, Plainview falls to 5-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in District.
