On the court: The Vega Lady Longhorns are off to a 9-3 start to the season and are coming off defending their own Vega Tournament championship with a 52-49 win over Stratford. During the Vega Tournament, the Lady Longhorns went 3-0 with victories over Highland Park, Bovina and then Stratford in the title game.

Griffitt was sensational throughout the tournament and was named MVP for her weekend performance. Against Highland Park, Griffitt scored 14 points with six rebounds and five steals, against Bovina, the sophomore had 14 points with seven boards and five steals and then Griffitt had a massive showing against Stratford with 25 points, 11 steals and 10 boards for a triple-double.

During the Vega Tournament, Griffitt finished averaging 17.6 points a game with 7.6 rebounds and seven steals.

Head coach Kaden Griffitt: “We are a very young team and lost some big seniors, so we needed to fill some roles and we’ve had a lot of girls step up and do that. We’ve had a lot of players buying in and figuring out those roles and Khloe is one of them. She carries a lot of weight on this team. Being a coaches daughter, she takes a lot of the responsibility and the words from me on the sideline. I love how much she has grown, especially as a leader on and off the court. On the court, she is like having another coach out there.”

Griffitt: “I think we have grown quite a bit as a team, especially during the Canadian Tournament. We learned to be there for one another during that tournament. I’m just trying to improve my game on and off the court and be the best teammate I can be and I want to grow as a leader. I think this year, I’m seeing the floor a lot better and handling the ball better. I just want to get better on the offensive side and continue to improve my defense.”
