Angel Lara, Bovina football, Sr.

On the field: Bovina has caught massive fire and massive attention as a No. 4-seed that has entered the third round of the playoffs for a program that hasn’t been this far since 2011. Lara has been the catalyst behind this success with his play on the field and his leadership in the locker room. Lara played a key role in a UIL Class 2A Division II bi-district win against Hale Center, and was instrumental once again during a 24-16 victory against Seagraves in the area round.

Against the Eagles, Lara made a huge fourth down stop with the game tied up in the late stages of the fourth quarter. On top of that, Lara rushed for 68 yards on 16 carries with two clutch touchdowns, to help secure the victory.

On the season, Lara has accumulated 968 yards rushing on 163 carries with 10 touchdowns and has racked up 74 tackles, 55 of those solo, with four sacks.

Head coach Wade Wilson: “Angel is a special kid. Not just on the field, but he’s an awesome young man to be around all the time. He’s a super talented football player and he maybe the best running back I’ve ever coached. I know he has a future at the college level and I can’t wait to see it. We are running the perfect offense that fits him and he is the face of this program.”

Lara: “These last couple of weeks and the wins we’ve had have been awesome. We’re all excited, the community is excited, and this team all loves playing for one another. It’s a bond and brotherhood that is making this team special and we’re peaking at the right time. I’ve been trying my best to be a leader and leave everything on the field, but we’re a brotherhood and everyone is doing their job.”
