Week 2 came to a close on Friday night and there was a lot of exciting games as well as individual performances. Let’s take a look at some of the top performers across the Amarillo-area and South Plains.
Austin Sluder, Amarillo High, WR, Sr.
The Sandie standout had his second straight big game on the outside for an explosive Amarillo High offense that already seems to be in mid-season form. During a 41-21 victory at San Angelo Central on Friday, Sluder was a major target for quarterback Jett Lopez hauling in six catches for 145 yards with two touchdowns.

Robinson and the Panhandle offense looked like a well-oiled machine in a 61-19 blowout against Stratford making an early season statement. Behind a very good offensive line, Robinson blistered the Stratford defense chewing up 181 yards on 22 carries with four touchdowns, all in the first half. Robinson was also extremely efficient with his arm going 13-of-15 for 183 yards adding another score.
Julian Reese II, Palo Duro, QB-DB, Jr.
Reese was the complete definition of a Swiss Army Knife in Palo Duro’s 48-0 shutout of rival Caprock on Thursday night at Dick Bivins Stadium. On the third play of the game, Reese took an interception back 45 yards for a touchdown helping set the tone. Offensively, the gunslinger went 14-of-23 for 241 yards with three touchdowns and rushed for 52 yards and rushed for another score.
Cam Taylor Lubbock Monterey, WR, Sr.
Lubbock Monterey picked up its first win of the season beating Abilene Wylie 24-21 on Thursday. It was also the first victory for head coach Jason Sims as the Plainsman head football coach. Taylor played a pivotal role making that happen by snagging eight catches for 118 yards with a TD.
Cooper Schilling, Perryton, QB-DB, Sr.
A big second half that saw 14-unanswered points helped Perryton rally for a thrilling 27-26 victory over Dalhart at home on Friday night. Sophomore Cooper Schilling regrouped from a tough opener at Canyon by delivering in every way possible. Through the air, Schilling was 18-of-25 for 167 yards with a touchdown. He then ran for 159 yards on 28 carries and two more TDs. Defensively, Schilling made a key play coming away with an interception.
Riggs Pennington, Canadian, TE, Sr.
A career night from the 6-foot-6 tight end highlighted a Canadian Wildcat 24-14 victory over Bushland in a very good Week 2 matchup Friday night. Pennington became a mismatch for the Falcons secondary as the senior tight end caught a career-high nine passes for 175 yards scoring all three Wildcat touchdowns.
Bayler Schilling, Canyon, WR, Sr.
Two weeks into the season, and it’s obvious that Schilling is healthy and going to be a force for the Canyon Eagles. Schilling had a huge game as the Eagles soared past Andrews 22-16. Schilling caught only four passes but had plenty of yards after the catch finishing with 195 yards with a touchdown.
Josue Sigala, Muleshoe, RB, Sr.
Sigala makes this list for a second week in a row and deservingly so. The explosive, shifty Sigala was all gas no brakes against Lamesa toting the rock 35 times for 278 yards with four touchdowns that helped the Mules stay unbeaten in a 32-24 victory.
Colton Bichard, QB, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, Sr.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty has opened the season 2-0 with another dominating win this time beating Idalou 55-12. Bichard is only getting better and better by the week and showing major improvement from last season. Bichard beat Idalou in multiple ways going 9-of-15 for 123 yards with a pair of touchdowns and then ran for 119 yards on only eight carries with another score.
Max Neff, Pampa, RB, Sr.
Despite a 49-41 loss at Plainview, Pampa senior running back Max Neff left it all on the to do his part for the Harvesters to get a win. For a second straight week, Neff went over the 200-yard mark. Neff absolutely decimated the Bulldog defense carrying the ball 23 times for an incredible 297 yards, averaging 12.9 yards per carry, with four touchdowns.
