Just a week into the season and district volleyball has already gotten underway thanks to a nine-team district in 3-5A. Check out the results from the Texas Panhandle and South Plains teams that saw action from Amarillo High against Palo Duro, Tascosa hosting Plainview, the crosstown showdown of Lubbock Coronado and Lubbock Monterey as well as Caprock visiting Lubbock High. In non-district play, West Plains took on Lubbock-Cooper Liberty and Bushland hosted Borger.

Tascosa gets past Plainview
The Tascosa Lady Rebels opened District 3-5A in a big way by rolling over Plainview at home in a clean sweep, 25-13, 25-11, 25-15, on Tuesday night at the THS Activity Center.
The Lady Rebels are off to a 7-2 start to the year and 1-0 in league action. Plainview drops to 3-6 on the year and 0-1 in 3-5A.
Berkley Harper and Gabbie Mason set the tone on the offensive side of the net combining for 20 kills. Harper paced Tascosa with 11 as Mason followed with nine. Libby Miller made the offense go with 21 assists followed by Addison Merrell’s 16. Defensively, Bennet Berryman showed up in a big way getting 24 digs.
Tascosa will now head to the Justin Northwest Tournament that begins Friday. The Lady Bulldogs are travel to San Angelo for the Nita Vannoy Tournament.

Amarillo High pummels Palo Duro
It was back to business for Amarillo High, as the Lady Sandies picked up where they left off last season. Fresh off an unbeaten run through District 3-5A a year ago, AHS opened this district season by pummeling Palo Duro in three sets, 25-6, 25-11, 25-13, at the AHS Activity Center on Tuesday.
Sophomore sensation Harper Vaughn is already making a name for herself in the early moments of the year. The 6-foot outside hitter pounded down a team-high 11 kills and had two blocks at the net. Teammate Stella Crawford handed out 12 assists and Ellen Head tallied 13 digs.
AHS is now 8-2 overall on the year and 1-0 in District 3-5A. The Lady Dons slip to 0-1 in the league and 4-6 overall.
The Lady Sandies will be at the Justin Northwest Tournament starting Friday. Palo Duro is at the River Road Tournament.
Lubbock Coronado beats crosstown rival Lubbock Monterey in four sets
Lubbock Coronado made the short drive across town to rival Monterey worth getting a four set win over the Lady Plainsman, 25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, in a District 3-5A opener Tuesday night at the Plainsman Gym.
The Lady Mustangs went up 2-0 in the match before Monterey was able to force a fourth set, however, Coronado put the game away in the fourth.
Hailee Parrott Curtis and Caitlyn Olguin did the damage each finishing with a double-double. Curtis hit the floor for 19 digs and added 15 kills on the offensive side of the net. Olguin dished out 14 assists and registered 10 digs. Teammate Addison Brown was clutch in the victory posting 32 assists.
Monterey’s Emma Satterfield did have 11 kills despite the loss with teammate Gabbie Garcia going for nine kills.
The Lady Mustangs are off to a 1-0 start in District 3-5A and 5-2 overall. The Lady Plainsman fall to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in district.
Coronado is traveling to the Grandbury Tournament this weekend. Monterey will go to the Haltom Buff Bash Tournament.
Lubbock High edges Caprock in five sets
Lubbock High and Caprock had the match of the night in District 3-5A with the Lady Westerners holding off a furious comeback attempt from the Lady Longhorns to get a thrilling five-set victory, 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 19-25, 15-13, at the Westerner Gym on Tuesday.
Caprock fell behind 2-0 only to tie the match up and force a fifth set. In that fifth and decisive set, LHS trailed 8-3 only to catch fire outscoring the Lady Longhorns 12-5 down the stretch to get the victory.
The Lady Westerners push their overall mark to 4-6 on the season but are more importantly 1-0 in District 3-5A. Caprock drops to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Junior outside hitter Addisyn Moser led LHS with 14 kills. Teammate Jazline Astorga added 17 assists with five kills.
Despite the defeat, Caprock’s Grace Morales and Marlene Ramirez left it all on the floor. Ramirez quarterbacked the offense working around 47 assists and had 17 digs for a double-double. Morales also put together a double-double effort with a monster defensive effort of 27 digs to go with 15 kills.
Non-district quick hits
Bushland remained red-hot beating up Borger in a quick three sets, 25-3, 25-10, 25-11, during a non-district clash at the Falcons Gym on Tuesday. Berkeley Billington, Jori Clark and Laynee Adams all shared the wealth with eight kills. Ava Permenter tallied 23 digs and served up five aces. Bushland moves to 9-3 overall.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty came down I-27 and picked up a big victory against West Plains in four sets, 26-24, 22-25, 31-29, 25-16. The Lady Patriots are off to a tremendous start at 9-0 overall. The Lady Wolves fall to 4-7. Lexie Allgood and Campbell Beeler each had 13 kills. Beeler added 16 digs for a double-double. Idaly Sotelo led West Plains with 22 digs. Kynzie Ward went for 13 kills and seven blocks.
Shallowater stayed perfect through the early portion of the schedule by knocking off Friona 25-15, 25-23, 25-11. The Fillies are now 8-0 to start the year. Emma Clawson had nine kills against the Squaws with Carli Buckley adding seven kills.
Dumas earned a big home win Tuesday night defeating Vega, 25-22, 25-7, 25-21. Haley Winegarner had 11 kills with 10 digs for a double-double. Sophie Clements did a little bit of everything with 12 assists, eight kills and five aces. The Demonettes are now 6-3 overall.
Canyon, Randall and Midland High had a triangular at Randall High School Tuesday. Canyon defeated Midland High 25-22, 25-18, 25-19. The Lady Bulldogs did bounce back beating Randall 25-22, 25-16, 25-22. Bennet Moore had 10 digs with 10 assists to tally a double-double for Randall.
In a crosstown matchup, Frenship was able to knock off Lubbock-Cooper in four sets, 25-11, 25-20, 21-25, 25-11. Bliss Dane was in charge for Frenship hitting the floor for 15 digs and knocking down 14 kills. Reese Roberts also had a double-double effort with 12 kills and 11 digs. Lubbock-Cooper’s Clara Pesterfield had 23 digs. Frenship is now 6-3 on the year. The Lady Pirates drop to 6-4.
It was another night at the office for Hereford, as the Lady Whitefaces handled Lubbock Christian in four-sets, 25-19, 25-21, 11-25, 28-26. The Lady Whitefaces improve to 4-6 on the young season. Teagan Thomas had 12 kills, Lilly Madrigal handed out 31 assists and Kadynce Ramirez played tremendous defense with 40 digs.
River Road came-from-behind for a five-set in win over Miami, 16-25, 16-25, 25-12, 25-23, 15-13, on Tuesday. Sophomore Grace Froneman was sensational posting a triple double with 14 kills, 12 digs and 11 assists. Teammate Harlea Adams added 22 digs, seven kills and was masterful from the serving line finishing with seven aces. The Lady Wildcats are now 6-2 overall.
Midland Greenwood outlasted Frenship Memorial getting a 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 sweep on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers fall to 6-2 in their first season. Despite the loss, Memorial’s Olivia Villegas had 11 kills.
The San Jacinto Christian Academy Lady Patriots picked up a victory against West Texas High on Tuesday night with a 25-8, 25-5, 25-10 sweep. Alayna Daniel went for 12 kills, Jaxsyn Amero added 12 digs and Blayne Robison served up six aces on top of 27 assists. The Lady Patriots improve to 7-2 overall.
