Gruver clubs Clarendon

The Gruver Greyhounds picked up where they left off in the regular season having no issues opening the UIL Class 2A Division II playoffs cruising past Clarendon 68-34 during a b-district matchup Monday night at McNeely Fieldhouse in Pampa.

The Greyhounds leveled the Broncos early going up 21-8 at the end of the first quarter. With Gruver up 18 at half, the Greyhounds put Clarendon away for good in the third thanks an 18-10 run over those eight minutes.

Jett Pittman was on fire burying six 3-pointers finishing with a game-high 23 points for Gruver. Teammates Mason Lankford and Stephen Cowan both added 12.

Bushland stuns Littlefield in buzzer beating fashion

A floater in the paint from Jordan Mariscal at the buzzer lifted the Bushland Falcons to an exciting 41-39 victory over Littlefield during one of the better Class 3A Division I bi-district matchups Monday night at Dimmitt High School.

With the game tied 39-39, Bushland’s Tripp Purcell had the ball in the paint with time winding down in the game. Facing a double team, the ball slipped out of Purcell’s hands as he went up for a shot. Fortunately for Bushland, the ball landed right into the hands of Mariscal who was able to get the quick floater up right before the buzzer went off and it was good sending the Falcons to the next round.

The Falcons (16-11) are now advancing to the regional quarterfinals to take on Brownfield (25-8) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University.

Jenner King paced the Falcons with 18 points as teammate Tagg Thrash adding 16.
