Bella Edwards, Amarillo High basketball, Sr.

On the court: Edwards has had quite the start to the year helping Amarillo High go 4-0 at a recent tournament in San Antonio on top of another stellar performance last week during the Lady Sandies 71-31 blistering of Lubbock Coronado during a District 3-5A matchup.

In San Antonio, Edwards earned Tournament MVP honors leading AHS to wins over South San, San Antonio Reagan, Fredericksburg, and San Antonio Churchill.  Edwards was then clutch in the victory over Coronado.

Over that five-game stretch, the senior sharp-shooter averaged 20.4 points a game, shot 46.2 from beyond the arc and knocked down 24, 3-pointers. Edwards shot 66.7 percent from the field and pulled down 3.2 rebounds a game with three steals a contest.

Coach Jeff Williams: “Bella is a tremendous shooter and always has been, but what I’m loving about her play this year is her defense and ability to create turnovers. She is becoming more and more of a complete player and not someone who is just great on the perimeter. She is getting to the bucket, finding open teammates and is a lot better rebounder. Her midrange game has improved, and she is a huge reason we are winning ball games.”

Edwards: “I feel like we’re off to a great start and we shot the ball really well from outside and that helped us get ready for district. I just want to keep being a leader for this team and do my best every time on I’m on the court. Over the summer, I worked hard on getting to the basket instead of settling for an outside shot and I worked a lot on my defense. I feel I’ve really gotten better in those areas.”
