Ascension Academy highlights TAPPS Class 2A state cross country meet

The Ascension Academy boys cross country team made a very strong showing and with that came home with major hardware during the TAPPS Class 2A state cross country meet at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco on Monday.

The Cardinals placed second overall with 49 points to claim a silver medal only 24 points behind state champion Southcrest Christian (25 points).

Highlighting the meet for Ascension Academy was sophomore Roman Martinez. Martinez came in fourth overall individually with a time of 17:47.56. Teammate Owen Chow also had a top 10 finish placing 10th overall clocking a time of 18:56.07.

Zachary Parker (19:14.84) and LJ Zubia (19:31.73) were top 20 finishers for the Cardinals team.

On the girls’ side, the Ascension Academy Lady Cardinals were sixth overall at the TAPPS Class 2A state meet with a total of 150 points. St. Paul Catholic was the state champions (46 points).

Kathleen Bartley paced the Lady Cardinals finishing eighth overall individually with a time of 13:55.32. Teammate Mackenzie Morris was 12th coming across the finish line with a 14:25.12.
