With that recent struggle, the 2023 defending Texas League champions were eliminated from playoff contention and won’t defend the crown toward the end of September.

The Sod Poodles dropped their final road game of the season to the Midland Rockhounds 7-6 on Sunday.
Christian Cerda went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Ivan Melendez added a three-hit day of his own on Sunday. Everyone in Amarillo’s lineup recorded at least one hit in the game.
The southpaw, Will Johnston, made his Double-A debut against Amarillo and retired the side in order to start the game. The Diamondbacks 16th-rated prospect, Dylan Ray, took the mound for Amarillo after a very successful August. He picked up his first strikeout in a 1-2-3 inning.
After back-to-back games where the team only recorded three hits, everyone in Amarillo’s lineup tallied at least one hit in Sunday’s road finale. This marks the 40th time in franchise history that this has occurred and the first time since August 22nd against the Corpus Christi Hooks.
Prior to Sunday, the Sod Poodles dropped games to the Rockhounds 4-0 on Saturday, 2-1 on Friday, split a doubleheader on Thursday. Amarillo won the first game 5-4 before falling 4-3 and were knocked off by Midland 5-2 to open things on Tuesday.
Amarillo finished the year 6-18 against Midland (40-23).
