Bushland’s Culpepper wins 800th career game 

Add another impressive achievement to an already long list for Bushland’s distinguished head volleyball coach Jason Culpepper.

On Thursday at the Glen Rose Tournament, Culpepper earned his 800th career victory with a sweep of West.

Culpepper, a four-time state championship coach between Randall and Bushland, is now 806-152 overall in 24 years.

Bushland finished the Glen Rose Tournament with a 7-1 mark and a runner-up finish in the championship bracket. The Lady Falcons (18-3 overall) had a strong opening Thursday getting victories over Bridgeport (25-3, 25-12), West (25-23, 25-9), Glen Rose (25-21, 21-25, 25-19) and Crowley (25-11, 25-4).

During Saturday’s bracket play, Bushland swept Ponder (25-15, 25-17) knocked off West Plains (25-14, 19-25, 25-21) and Melissa (25-16, 25-21) before falling to Liberty Hill in the title game 21-25, 21-25.

Mackenzie Sims and Avery Ramos were both named to the All-Tournament team. Sims finished the tournament with 121 assists and 37 kills. Ramos played great defense wih 138 digs.

West Plains, Randall have strong weekends in Glen Rose 

West Plains went 6-1 overall at the Glen Rose Tournament with the Lady Wolves only loss coming to Bushland.

The Lady Wolves (12-7) earned wins over Clifton (25-19, 23-25, 25-17), Grace Prep (25-18, 25-11), Burnet (25-11, 25-16) and Henrietta (25-15, 25-14) on Thursday.

On Saturday, after falling to Bushland, the Lady Wolves regrouped to beat Springtown 25-17, 25-22.

West Plains outside hitter Piper Patterson was named to the All-Tournament team and setter CeCe Murillo went over the 1000 career assist mark on Thursday.

Randall (13-7 overall) took fifth place overall at the Glen Rose Tournament with a 4-2 record. The Lady Raiders opened Thursday with wins against Nolan Catholic (25-18, 18-25, 25-16), Millsap (25-17, 25-14) and China Springs (25-21, 25-14).

On Saturday, Randall fell to Wimberly 24-26, 20-25, but rebounded to knock off Midland Christian 25-15, 25-27, 25-18 for fifth place.

Sidney Soria had a strong showing as the senior setter dished out 153 assists to go with 39 kills and 38 digs. Teammate Brooke Henderson added 61 kills with 59 digs.

Amarillo High, Canyon, Tascosa impress at GranburyTournament 

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies had a very good outing at the Grandbury Tournament over Thursday through Saturday.

The Lady Sandies (16-4 overall) went 7-1 before falling to Eastlake in the championship bracket semifinals 13-25, 20-25.

On Thursday, AHS started off hot with wins over Chisolm Trail (24-26, 25-22, 25-22), El Dorado (25-19, 25-20) and Midland Legacy (25-22, 25-12).

On Friday, the Lady Sandies carried that momentum beating Stephenville (25-16, 25-16), Odessa Permian (25-9, 25-17), and Crawford (24-26, 25-18, 25-9).

To open Saturday, AHS opened bracket play knocking off familiar foe Canyon (23-25, 25-15, 25-20), before falling to Eastlake.

Senior outside hitter Sienna Cavalier was named to the All-Tournament team. Over the eight games, Cavalier totaled 75 kills.

Canyon finished eighth overall in the championship bracket going 4-4 over the weekend. The Lady Eagles (9-9 overall) beat Grandbury JV (25-13, 25-11), Brennan (22-25, 25-9, 25-19), Joshua (13-25, 25-20, 25-23) and Trinity (25-19, 25-12).

Laney Jones and Landri Jay highlighted the weekend for Canyon. Jones had 52 kills with four blocks. Jay, who was named to the All-Tournament team, added 132 receptions with 93 digs.

Tascosa was also playing at the Granbury Tournament. The Lady Rebels (14-6) went 6-3 during the three days to win the silver bracket championship and took fifth overall.

Tascosa earned that silver title knocking off Midland Legacy 25-22, 17-25, 25-18.

Bennett Berryman earned All-Tournament honors hitting the floor for 104 digs while serving up 11 aces. Teammate Saphina Stanley led the team in kills with 67.

Tournament recaps 

• The Dalhart Lady Wolves went wire-to-wire unbeaten to claim the River Road Tournament crown on Saturday. The Lady Wolves (10-2) opened Friday beating Childress (25-19, 25-16), and Vega (25-19, 25-16). On Saturday, Dalhart defeated Miami in the quarterfinals (25-14, 25-8), then took down Idalou in the semifinals (21-25, 25-18, 15-9) before beating San Jacinto Christian Academy in the championship 25-13, 25-19. Emily Gaines highlighted the tournament for Dalhart with 36 total kills. Teammate Kami Maddox chipped in 31 kills and Elli Bezner notched 51 assists.
• SJCA (12-2 overall) saw its only loss at the hands of Dalhart picking up victories over Idalou, Wildorado, Highland Park, Vega, and Sanford-Fritch. The Lady Patriots were led by Alayna Daniels’ 47 kills as teammate Harlie Brabham added 44 assists and 14 aces. Mia Whitney played stellar defense with 39 digs.
• River Road beat Palo Duro (18-25, 25-23, 15-6) to capture the gold consolation championship. Reese DeHart had a huge week for the Lady Wildcats. The senior tallied 95 assists over the tournament going on top of getting over 1,000 career assists on Tuesday.
• The Dumas Demonettes finished third overall at the Lu Allen Memorial Tournament in Graham. Dumas (9-8 overall) went 5-2 over the weekend. Rylee Schacher and Sophie Clements earned All-Tournament honors. Schacher knocked down 53 total kills and played strong at the net with 26 blocks. Clements added 91 assists with 41 kills.
• Hereford took fourth place at the Farmersville Tournament. The Lady Whitefaces (10-8) had a great outing going 7-2 overall. London Baker was named to the All-Tournament team totaling 78 kills with 77 assists and 14 digs for the weekend.
• Holy Cross Catholic Academy won the Perryton Tournament championship finishing with a 4-0 mark. The Lady Mustangs (6-4 overall) went 4-0 during the tournament defeating Shamrock in the championship game 25-10, 25-19. Lisbeth Vasquez and Madison Valdez were lights out for HCCA. Vasquez dished out 68 assists with 11 aces and Valdez added 77 assists with 16 kills.
