The Amarillo Sod Poodles were able to snap a three-game losing skid and salvage a series split at San Antonio thanks to a come-from-behind 5-3 win against the Missions on Sunday night at Nelson Wolff Stadium.

The Sod Poodles move to 20-25 overall sitting six games back of Midland in the Texas League South Division.

Amarillo returns home to open the start of a two-week home stand with a six-game series with Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hodgetown.

After getting two wins to open the series at San Antonio (21-23) the Sod Poodle bats went ice cold during a three-game losing stretch from Thursday to Saturday. Amarillo produced only two runs in those losses to the Missions.

On Sunday, that trend continued with Amarillo trailing 3-1 until the bats finally woke up led by Kristian Robinson who scored three of the Sod Poodles five runs. Robinson finished Sunday with a double and two stolen bases as well.

Robinson ended the series going 5-for-16 at the dish with four runs scored with four RBIs coming from a grand slam on Wednesday night.

Teammate Jean Walters delivered a key double plating two runs to help Robinson’s effort.

The bullpen effort of Will Mabrey, Conor Grammes, Jake Rice, and Mitchell Stumpo combined to pitch four scoreless innings to preserve a Sod Poodles win in the series finale.

That trio accumulated five strikeouts without a walk. The group combined to retire 12-of-13 batters they faced, including the first 11. Will Mabrey picked up his third win of the year in a 1-2-3 sixth inning of work.
