Players to watch

Jayden Acosta-Lewis, 5-11, 165-pound, RB-DB, Sr.

Acosta-Lewis is the captain and workhorse of the Caprock Longhorns. Playing a big role on both sides of the ball, Acosta-Lewis will look to capitalize on a junior year that saw him rack up 34 tackles on defense with two picks and beef up his carries and yards in the backfield.

Xavier Vargas, 5-10, 170-pound, RB/LB, Jr.

Vargas not only gives the Longhorns depth in a packed backfield but he’s also one of the top defensive players returning for head coach Rowdy Freeman. Last season, Vargas led Caprock in tackles with 37 and is expected to have an even bigger year in 2024.

Josiah Darnes, 6-foot, 220-pound, DL, Soph.

Get used to the name Josiah Darnes. Darnes is an up and comer that saw plenty of action for the Longhorns as a freshman last season. Coach Freeman is very impressed with his size and strength with the expectation of Darnes being a problem for the opponents’ offenses.
