The No. 2-ranked West Texas A&M softball team ran through the Lone Star Conference during the regular season and once again ran through the LSC over the past three days to win the LSC Tournament for the sixth time in program history.

WTAMU defended Schaeffer Park in a convincing way on Thursday through Saturday defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 8-2 in a quarterfinal, pounding St. Mary’s 9-1 on Friday in the semifinals and capped it off with an 8-0 victory against No. 3-ranked UT Tyler in the LSC Tournament championship on Saturday.

“I’m really proud of this team,” WTAMU softball coach Michael Mook said. “We played great defense and had big hits. We worked hard all year, and it means a lot to see the success come to life.”

The Lady Buffs (48-6 overall) advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament and await their opponent that will be announced Monday morning.

WTAMU did exactly what you are supposed to do and that’s hit the ball well, score runs and pitch it strong in the circle. Over the three wins, the Lady Buffs outscored Kingsville, St. Mary’s and UT Tyler 25-3.

Pitcher Emilee Boyer, the LSC Tournament MVP, was unbelievable in the circle leading the Lady Buffs to all three wins. Boyer (23-2) threw the entire tournament racking up 18 total innings allowing only two earned runs with 14 strikeouts. At the plate, Boyer homered against St. Mary’s and drove in an RBI against Kingsville.

During Friday’s victory over St. Mary’s Randall graduate Heaven Moreno went deep for a homer and in Saturday’s championship shortstop Madison Johnson was huge going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Megan Guericke, Emily Liskai, and LSC Player of the Year Diana Murtha were all named to the LSC All-Tournament team.
