Makia Boyce, Pampa, RB, Soph.
The shifty, speedy, sophomore put his name on the map as Pampa-Borger added another historic chapter to one of the best rivalries in the Texas Panhandle. Boyce played a big part in the Harvesters thrilling 34-33 come-from-behind win, scoring a 1-yard touchdown with just over two minutes remaining to give Pampa the lead for good. That was the icing on the cake for Boyce who blistered Borger’s defense for 170 yards on 20 carries finishing with two TDs.
Armando Lujan, Sunray, QB, Jr.
Lujan did anything he wanted during Sunray’s blowout win over Guymon, Okla., 68-27. The junior standout started with his arm by going 31-of-44 for 394 yards with eight touchdown tosses. Lujan also rushed for 80 yards with another score to combine for nine TDs in the win, and if that wasn’t enough made two interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
Greeley Adams, Canadian, OL, Sr.
A lot of people might not know the name Greeley Adams, but the senior played a significant role in Canadian’s 69-28 blistering of Randall in a game that wasn’t as close as the score looked. Filling in for injured center Kamden Sanchez, Adams took his first snaps since junior high on Thursday night. Adams hasn’t played football since junior high and decided he wanted to be a part of the Canadian team his senior year and make a positive impact anyway he could. When Sanchez was injured, Adams was called upon and stepped right in with 100 percent snap rate against Randall. If you weren’t a Canadian fan, you didn’t notice any different in the Wildcat scoring barrage.
Pius Vokes, Amarillo High, RB, Sr.
Vokes help keep Amarillo High undefeated in District 2-5A Division I during a lopsided 38-7 home win over Caprock. The speedy senior juked and jived his way through the Longhorn defense stacking up a game-high 143 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns.
Daniel Sianez, Muleshoe, RB, Sr.
Muleshoe moved to 6-0 for the first time since 2009 and the senior leader was a big reason for it. During the Mules’ 48-21 rout of Brownfield, Sianez showed his toughness by carrying the ball 17 times while chewing up 148 yards with two touchdowns.
King Tallant, West Plains, WR, Sr.
Tallant showed his amazing talent with an unbelievable performance in a 42-21 West Plains win over previously unbeaten Hereford in front of a monster Homecoming crowd. The Wolves’ offensive Swiss Army Knife showed his versatility and then some by snagging 11 catches, six of those on the jet sweep, for 159 yards for a touchdown and added a rushing TD.
Dawson Jaco and Tanner Adams, Bushland QB-WR
Behind a tremendous effort from the Falcon offensive line, quarterback Dawson Jaco and receiver Tanner Adams were able to put together an amazing 1-2 combination in Bushland’s 68-20 blowout over El Paso Riverside. Jaco was outstanding going 19-of-24 for 310 yards with five touchdown passes and ran for three more scores combining for eight TDs. Adams was Jaco’s main target catching seven of those passes for 170 yards with four touchdowns.
Colt Cruth, Canyon, DB, Jr.
Canyon played lights out on defense to get a big 35-14 road win before opening district play later this week. Cruth was all over the field making play after play against the Mustangs Slot-T offense, as he was in on 11 tackles, four of which were solo and returned a fumble for a touchdown.
Hunter Trusler, Dalhart, RB-WR, Soph.
Quarterback Kyler Read usually gets the praise, but even Read will tell you Trusler deserves the attention after a magnificent outing during a 41-31 come-from-behind victory at Levelland on Friday. Trusler did everything he was asked by rushing the ball 17 times for 68 yards with a touchdown, then snagging six passes at the wide out position for 107 yards with two more scores.
Julius Atherton, Wheeler, RB, Jr.
Atherton made life miserable for the Boys Ranch defense that help lift the Wheeler Mustangs to their first win of 2023 in grand fashion behind a 34-0 shutout. Atherton was called upon time and time again and delivered for coach Matt Hoover’s team chewing up 170 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown.
