Bushland downs Dumas
Bushland kept its winning ways going getting a convincing win over Dumas 28-17 at Falcons Stadium on Friday night.
It’s the second year in a row that the Falcons flew past the Demons as Bushland moves to 4-1 overall on the year while Dumas falls to 1-4.
The Falcons started off fast grabbing a 14-0 lead behind a five-yard touchdown pass from Dawson Jaco to Kade Gavina then a Slade Perry five-yard touchdown run.
After the Demons cut the deficit at 21-14 when Sadler Wieck snagged an 18-yard scoring toss from quarterback Colton Mills, the Falcons responded before the first half ended on a Tanner Adams 15-yard touchdown scamper.
Adams finished with six catches for 142 yards with a receiving touchdown as well. Kade Gavina made seven catches for 99 yards with a score, and Jaco went 22-of-28 for 348 yards with two TD passes.
Mills led the Dumas offense going 23-of-47 for 342 yards with a pair of scoring passes. Jonathan Gutierrez snagged nine catches for 114 yards.
Muleshoe keeps on rolling
Not many teams are off playing better to start the 2023 than the Muleshoe Mules.
Once again, the Mules dominated on both sides of the ball for a 47-0 thumping at Abernathy on Friday night.
Muleshoe goes over 40 points for a fifth straight game as the Mules stay perfect at 5-0 on the season. Abernathy falls to 2-3.
The Mules offense exploded for 497 total yards led by a ground attack that put up 301 of those yards. The duo of freshman Josue Sigala and Daniel Sianez were the catalyst behind the rushing attack. Sigala had another huge performance piling up 109 yards on only eight carries with a touchdown while Sianez toted the rock 12 times for 107 yards and a score. Quarterback Nathan Martens was efficient going 19-of-23 for 196 yards with a touchdown. Noah Cantu led the defensive effort with 14 tackles, two of which were for a loss, for a Muleshoe defense that held Abernathy to 228 total yards.
Friona stuns Farwell for first win of the year
Friona knocked Farwell from the ranks of the unbeaten in a very good ball game by getting a 35-27 win at Chieftains Stadium on Friday night.
After a rough start to the year, Friona earns its first win of 2023, moving to 1-3 overall. Farwell suffers its first loss after a hot start dropping to 4-1.
Friona led 21-14, then took a 28-14 lead into the third quarter on a Carson Seamon 15-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Gonzales. Farwell had cut the lead in half, 28-21, on a quarterback Jonathan Armstrong 66-yard touchdown scamper, but Friona responded in the fourth quarter when the Chieftains got some insurance when Seaman hit a dart to Isaac Olmos for a 62-yard pitch and catch that put Friona back up 35-21.
Seaman completed only three passes on the night but all three went for touchdown passes as he finished with 129 yards passing. Seaman also added 52 yards rushing. Cade Seaman, Carson’s twin brother, chewed up the Steers’ defense for 194 yards on 25 carries with a pair of TDs.
Despite the loss, Farwell standout running back Corey Stancell rushed for 197 yards on 22 carries that included a 79-yard touchdown and led the team with 10 tackles.
Childress dominates Bowie
The Childress Bobcats snapped a two-game losing skid by dismantling Bowie thanks to a 41-13 thumping at home on Friday night at Fair Park Stadium.
The Bobcats close their non-district schedule at 3-2 overall. The Jackrabbits fall to 1-4.
Childress jumped out to a 27-0 first half lead and never looked back. The Bobcat defense was a huge reason for the win putting on quite the display forcing four turnovers and scoring two touchdowns. Mark Willis had a 36-yard pick six and linebacker Scout Smith took a fumble recovery back 30-yards for another TD.
On the offensive side, running back Da’Reon Mathis shifted his way for 139 yards on 20 carries with two TDs, and quarterback Drake Rabe went 15-of-24 for 204 yards with a touchdown.
Highland Park outguns Dimmitt
In a game that saw a combined 92 points, Highland Park was able to edge Dimmitt in a wild shootout on Friday night at Bobcat Stadium.
The Hornets rebound coming off their first loss to Gruver last week improving to 4-1 overall. Dimmitt drops to 1-4.
The two teams combined for 1,082 yards of offense in this crazy contest. Highland Park’s offense was on fire totaling 599 yards of offense and doing it in a very balanced way. The Hornets threw for 356 yards and rushed it for 243 yards with seven total touchdowns. Dimmitt finished with 483 total yards with 459 of those eye-opening numbers coming from the ground game with seven touchdowns.
Quarterback Brady Thompson had a solid outing going 16-of-25 for 356 yards with five passing TDs. The senior also rushed it for 65 yards with another score. Elyes Torres did it all with 19 carries for 105 yards rushing and caught six passes for 157 yards with two receiving scores.
In a tough losing effort, hats off to Bobcat running back Tony Salazar. Salazar had a career effort scoring all seven of Dimmitt’s touchdowns finishing with an incredible 396 yards on 23 carries, averaging 17.2 yards a carry.
Clarendon knocks off Tulia
Clarendon is back in the win column for a second straight week after going on the road and taking care of Tulia, 44-21, on Friday night at Younger Field.
Quarterback Harrison Howard did his job going 14-of-19 for 200 yards with three touchdown passes and ran for a 44-yard score and teammate Lyric Smith rushed it 14 times with a pair of touchdowns while snagging two catches for 52 yards.
Tulia running back Ethaniel Trevino put together a great outing piling up 183 yards rushing to lead the Hornets on 25 carries with a touchdown. Quarterback David Molina tacked on 100 yards rushing with a TD of his own.
Clarendon moves to 2-3 overall after an 0-3 start. Tulia falls to 1-4.
