Borger wins shootout over Dalhart

In what might have been the most thrilling game of the night, Borger quarterback K.J. Jennings scored on a 14-yard run with 30 second left to lift the Bulldogs to a 41-38 win over Dalhart.

Jennings scored on a fourth-and-one to give Borger (3-2) the winning points. That capped a big game in which Jennings completed 17-of-21 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown and ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

Dalhart quarterback Kyler Read threw for 203 yards and ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Hunter Trusler ran for two touchdowns for the Wolves (4-1).

Colt Cruth led Canyon’s rushing attack with 103 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. The Eagles (4-1) ran over Greenwood (0-5) with 340 yards rushing.

Caprock drops 2-5A D-I opener to Lubbock Coronado

The Caprock Longhorns showed some of their real strengths Thursday night in their District 2-5A Division I opener at Dick Bivins Stadium.

Unfortunately, they also showed some things which have been cause for concern.

Caprock and Lubbock Coronado engaged in a defensive struggle which was tied heading into the fourth quarter. In the end, though, Coronado came up with the necessary offense, scoring two fourth quarter touchdowns to defeat Caprock 21-7.

The Longhorns (1-4, 0-1 in district) did their part defensively as expected, giving up only 220 yards of offense. However, the struggles of the offense continued, as they only managed 166 total yards.

Caprock’s lone score came late in the third quarter, when Zayden Ramirez scored on a 7-yard run to tie it 7-7. But Coronado quarterback Dom Parrish provided two scores in the fourth quarter to make the difference, scoring on a 3-yard run to give the Mustangs (2-3, 1-0) the lead and clinching it with a 32-yard scoring pass to Surreal Garrett, the second scoring connection between the two on the evening.

Palo Duro uses big second half to roll past Randall

The Palo Duro Dons used their final non-district game to tune up their offense and got things going on that side of the ball, as they scored 31 points in the second half to beat Randall 45-27 at Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday.

On his birthday, sophomore quarterback Darien Lewis had a breakout game throwing the ball for the Dons (2-2), completing 10-of-14 passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns. A.J. James ran for 192 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and Lewis ran for 139 yards and two scores on 11 carries. Lewis also had an interception on defense.

Braylen Norman had five catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns, as Palo Duro came back from a 21-14 halftime deficit.

Randall’s Tryston Sanchez threw two touchdown passes and ran for 125 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Kaiden Miller had five catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders (3-2).
