Canyon’s Knowles no-hits West Plains
Behind a very strong performance from pitcher Kylie Knowles, the Canyon Lady Eagles got a 10-0 shutout over West Plains on Thursday afternoon at the Double Eagle Softball Complex.
The Lady Eagles (11-14), who have clinched a Class 4A playoff berth, stay in a first place tie with Pampa (16-4) and Randall (20-10) at 8-2 in District 4-4A with four games remaining.
Knowles was locked in keeping the Lady Wolves (11-16-1, 2-8) off balance working all five innings of the run-rule win without allowing a hit and piling up 11 strikeouts. Offensively, Knowles had plenty of support. Amber Bertoni had a two-run double, and Brenna Edwards also drove in a pair of runs.
Randall gets big win over Dumas
Randall put up six runs in the first two innings and made it hold up earning an important 8-6 win at Dumas on Friday afternoon.
The victory was huge for the Lady Raiders (20-10) who moved to 8-2 in District 4-4a to stay in a three-way tie for first place with Canyon and Pampa. Dumas (21-7) is now 6-4 in the league after a 5-0 start as the Demottes find themselves in a fourth place tie with Borger (14-14-1, 6-4).
Randall wasted no time jumping on the board thanks to a Lauren Garcia double that gave the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead and Berkley Browder solo homer that saw Randall go up 3-0. After Dumas cut the deficit 3-2 in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Raiders put three more runs up in the top of the second highlighted by RBI doubles from Sidney Soria and Anberlin O’Dell. From there, Randall was able to hold on to the lead for the win. O’Dell was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, as Soria went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and a pair of RBIs. Browder didn’t have her best day in the circle, however, worked all seven innings allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts.
Pampa holds off Hereford
The Pampa Lady Harvesters held off a gutsy effort from Hereford to earn an 8-5 victory at home on Thursday afternoon.
Kynleigh Kirby as usual was stellar for the Lady Harvesters. At the plate, Kirby went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. In the circle, Kirby earned the win working a complete game with three earned runs and nine K’s. Teammate Reagan Dyer came in clutch with a three-run triple.
Pampa, who has clinched a Class 4A playoff berth, moves to 16-4 overall and stays in a first place tie a top the league with Canyon and Randall at 8-2. Hereford falls to 10-16, 2-8.
Borger bullies Perryton
Borger kept its playoff hopes intact by getting a 16-0 run-rule victory over Perryton on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-14-1) push their District 4-4A record to 6-4 moving into a fourth-place tie with Dumas (21-7, 6-4) for the final playoff spot with four games remaining. Perryton drops to 5-15, 0-10.
Brooklyn Castagnetta did her part in the leadoff spot going 3-for-4 with a double and scoring three times. Teammate Emilee Bridges was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Cylin Saxon added three RBIs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
District 3-5A
AHS takes control of 3-5A race
Amarillo High went across town and got a very important 5-2 district victory against rival Caprock on Thursday afternoon at the Lady Longhorns Softball Complex.
The victory gives the Lady Sandies (24-1) not only a playoff clinch a Class 5A playoff spot but take a two-game lead over the Lady Longhorns (12-7-1) in the District 3-5A race. AHS is now a perfect 5-0 in the league while Caprock falls to 3-2.
The third inning was the difference in the ballgame thanks to the Lady Sandies big bats. With the game tied, 1-1, the Lady Sandies took over for good on a Tatem Pendergraft solo homer putting AHS up 2-1. Two batters later it was Amelia Tietz following suit with a solo home run of her own extending the lead to 3-1, then moments later AHS added one more run on another bomb this time from Kinsler Hanson. Tietz was 2-for-4 on the day with two RBIs. Tessia Guzman earned the victory in the circle throwing seven solid innings giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts.
In the other 3-5A contest on Thursday, Plainview defeated Tascosa, 11-4.
District 1-3A
Bushland dominates Dimmitt
Bushland continues to dominate through the district as this time it was a 13-1 blowout against Dimmitt to keep the Lady Falcons perfect in 1-3A play on Friday afternoon.
Bushland is 6-0 now in league play and 21-6 overall. Dimmitt drops to 7-8, 1-5.
Brylee Abby Howell was big offensively going 3-for-3 including a home run with four RBIs, and she scored a pair of runs. Kylee Jordan had two hits including a double with two RBIs, and Jada Permenter homered and totaled three runs batted in. Brylee Adams was superb in the circle with 11 strikeouts in five innings allowing one hit.
River Road rolls over Dalhart
River Road put up seven runs in the first two innings to breeze past Dalhart in a 17-1 run-rule victory on Friday afternoon.
Ava Sharp feasted on Lady Wolves pitching with a three-run home run, and had four RBIs on the day. In the circle, Sharp made it difficult for Dalhart hitters, limiting the Lady Wolves to one hit in five innings with an impressive 10 K’s. Teammate Sidnee Kane added four RBIs of her own.
River Road stayed a game back of Bushland in District 1-3A improving to 5-1 in the league and 16-9 overall. Dalhart falls to 6-10, 2-3. In the other district clash on Friday, Canadian won a wild game over Tulia, 19-18, in eight innings.
