State quarterfinals

Tascosa (9-3) vs. Denton Guyer (12-1) 11 a.m. Saturday, The Star, Frisco

Know this. Denton Guyer is so legit it’s ridiculous with its only loss to unbeaten Southlake Carroll and lowest scoring game 42 points over the last seven games. The thing to watch in this one is if Tascosa can slow Guyer dual-threat quarterback Eli Stowers ( Texas A&M committ). Like hold Guyer to 35 points. Guyer hasn’t seen a Flexbone offense like Tascosa so look for the Rebs to roll up points. Man, this one is going to back and forth crazy. I believe. … Tascosa 42, Guyer 35.

Last week: 3-0 (1.000)

Season: 48-17 (.738)

Class 4A Division I

State quarterfinals

Springtown (12-1) vs. Dumas (13-0), 6 p.m. Grande Communications Stadium, Midland.

The Demons are in new found territory playing December football for the first time in school history. Dumas has an entire community with a ton of momentum behind them. If they can match last week’s effort against the Porcupines this week, state semi’s here they come. … Dumas 34, Springtown 29.

Class 3A Division II

State quarterfinals

Abernathy (12-1) vs. Canadian (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday, J Ferg Field Buffalo Stadium, West Texas A&M.

It’s a rematch of last year’s state quarterfinal, and a game that fans have been anxiously waiting for since practices opened in August. And how bout the setting? Buffaloes Stadium is a premiere venue with tremendous energy. The perfect place for a game of this magnitude. As for the contest, the Wildcats beat the Antelopes in a defense clash last year. Expect another dandy this year. … Canadian 23, Abernathy 16.

Last week: 2-1 (.666)

Season: 94-20 (.824)

Class 2A Division II

State quarterfinals

Wink (9-3) vs. Stratford (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock.

The Elks have continued to dominate since their week 2 loss to West Texas High. Behind key performances from Iuden Romero and Walker McBryde, the Elks press forward to the state semifinals. …Stratford 38, Wink 20

Region II Division II

State quarterfinals

Wellington (12-1) vs. Hamlin (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday, Leo Brittain Field at Lions Stadium, Vernon.

It’s finally come to fruition; a rematch between the Pied Pipers and the Skyrockets—despite the retirement of Wade Williams, expect a matchup fueled by a motivated Wellington team. … Wellington 28, Hamlin 20

Last week: 5-0 (1.000)

Season: 101-21 (.827)

Class 1A Division I

State semifinals

McLean (12-1) vs. Rankin (12-1), 6 p.m. Saturday, Peoples Bank Stadium, Wolfforth

This is a matchup between two power houses. McLean and Ben Crockett have relied on their power run game as the Red Devils have used their speed and spread offense to bolster their offense. There will be plenty of points scored in this one, but obviously it’s going to be which defense can slow the opponent and force turnovers. This one is a toss up, lets take the the defending champs. … McLean 75, Rankin 72.
