UIL Class 2A realignment preview: Does Region I become the region we’ve always known

Wellington head coach Greg Proffitt, left, talks to his quarterback Creighton Killian during a timeout during a District 5-2A game against Wheeler last season. [Tom Carver/ Press Pass Sports]We’ve all seen experts across the state make their UIL realignment breakdowns, and every coach has their best guess.

But at the end of the day, they are all educated guesses, and only the UIL will have the answer Monday morning.

One guarantee when talking Class 2A is definite movement in both Division I and Division II. Some minimal, then some that could be more impactful.

Farwell and Tahoka are making a leap from Division II into Division I, while Sunray drops from Division I into Division II.

So the question is, what does the UIL do with wildcard schools like Farwell, Olton, Post and Olton? Does Farwell and Olton both go north? Does Tahoka go with Post into District 2-2A, or will there be five team districts?

In Division II, it makes sense to see Sunray replace Claude in District 3-2A with Booker, Gruver, Stratford and Vega. Again, Vega is another school on that north/ south teetering line, while Bovina is a tough piece to the puzzle to figure out.

How about Shamrock, Wellington, Wheeler, Memphis, Munday, Quanah?

If the UIL goes north and south instead of east and west, expect Shamrock, Wellington, Memphis and Quanah to join Clarendon back in Region I, and Munday to stay in Region II.

Here’s how I see the most likely scenario playing out Monday.
