PD advances in thrilling fashion

Palo Duro (16-17) advances to the area round to face El Paso Burgess (20-9) at a time and place to be determined.

Shonda Stigler led the Lady Dons with 11 points.

How bout Wildorado

For a second straight year the Wildorado Lady Mustangs, who are only a two-year program, have advanced into the Class 1A area round.

Wildorado downed Anton 54-44 in a bidistrict matchup Tuesday night in Plainview. The victory sets up a matchup with District 1-1A winner Higgins at 6 p.m. Friday in Pampa.

Jessica Merrell tallied a game-high 13 points against Anton.

Tuesday’s top performers

Childress standout and Division I prospect Grace Foster was a mismatch in a 62-42 thumping of Jacksboro in a bidistrict game in Vernon Tuesday. The junior couldn’t be stopped, pouring in a game-high 35 points.

Miranda and Nayeli Acosta helped Hereford pull away for a 57-35 bidistrict victory against Dumas at Amarillo High. The Lady Whitefaces outscored the Demonettes 22-4 in the fourth quarter to earn the W. Miranda and Nayeli each chipped in 15 points.

Bethany Berngen scored 12 points to lead Dalhart to its first playoff win in three years, as the Lady Golden Wolves dominated Estacado 55-21.

Despite a tough loss to Brownfield on Tuesday, Spearman’s Mia Pipkin gave it her best effort with a team-high 23.
