Gruver football coach and athletic director Terry Felderhoff will be resigning his position, announcing the news to his players through a Zoom meeting and text messages Tuesday afternoon.
Pending board approval this coming Monday, Felderhoff will be named as the new head football coach and boys athletic director position at Class 2A Division II Era.
“Gruver has been great to me, and my family.” Felderhoff said. “It’s a bitter sweet deal, but in this stage of my career, being close to family is is driving force to my decision. Kristi (Felderhoff’s wife) and I will always be Gruver Greyhound fans, but we’re looking forward to being close to our family. It’s also exciting to take on a new challenge.”
Felderhoff spent 14 seasons at Gruver, amassing a 103-59 record at the school. In those 14 years, Felderhoff turned the Greyhounds into one of the better small school programs in the Amarillo-area, making 12 playoff appearances, not to mention leading Gruver to its first Class 2A Division II state championship game in school history in 2018.
“I’m proud of what we accomplished at Gruver,” said Felderhoff, whose teams were 32-10 in the last three years. “I’ve had great assistant coaches, a very supportive administration and most importantly great players. They are great kids as much as they are great athletes. It’s been fun to see these kids play hard and change the attitude in our football program.”
Felderhoff leaves the Texas Panhandle with 110 wins to 72 losses in his career. The 110 wins ranks fourth among active coaches in this area, trailing only Blake Bryant of Canyon, Chris Koetting of Canadian and Joe Riley of Lefors.
