AHS rolls into District 3-5A

The No. 6-ranked Amarillo High Lady Sandies opened up District 3-5A action in a big way thumping Palo Duro 70-21 at the PD Activity Center on Friday night.

AHS wasted little time blowing the contest wide open jumping out to a 24-4 first quarter advantage.

McKenzie Smith and Lacey Rice combined for 39 of the Lady Sandies 70 points. Smith poured in a game-high 20, followed by Rice with 19.

AHS improves to 18-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Clarendon stuns Panhandle

The first night of a full girls district schedule brought one of the biggest upsets.

District 2-2A favorite, and No. 6-ranked Panhandle was left stunned on the road falling at Clarendon, 44-30.

The Ettes, who reached the state semifinals a year ago, struggled from the floor falling behind 14-8 in a tough scoring first half. The Lady Broncos picked up the pace in the second half opening a 30-18 lead after three quarters and never looked back. Hayden Elam was sensational leading Clarendon with a game-high 19 points. Teammate Finley Cunningham added nine points.
