The Lady Horn’s Classic wrestling tournament is set to take place at Caprock High School on Friday and Saturday.

The prestigious tournament has been going on for 20 years, making it the longest running girls wrestling tournament in Texas, and second longest nationally behind the Napa Valley Girls Classic hosted by Vintage High School in Calif.

The Lady Horn’s Classic, which features 32 schools, is a showcase of the top talent and teams from across the state, Oklahoma and Colorado.

“I think it’s awesome to be a part of,” said Chris Allen, who is in his second season as the Caprock wrestling coach, and 13th season overall. “It’s the longest running tournament in state for women’s wrestling. It’s a very competitive tournament, and there are some great weight classes to watch for. The No. 2-ranked girl in nation, Lexie Basham, from Byron Nelson will also be here competing in the 138-pound weight class.”

Over the past two decades the Lady Horn’s Classic has build itself into quite a tradition.

There have been over 15 girls that have gone on to be college All-Americans. Three former wrestlers have gone on to fight in the UFC, and 2004 Olympian Toccara Montgomerey competed in this tournament.

The Lady Horn’s Classic starts at 9 a.m. Friday, and Saturday. Finals in each weight class will be begin Saturday afternoon.
