
The first full week of district play saw some electric games on top of some outstanding individual performances. Let’s take a look at some of those athletes that shined on Thursday and Friday across the Amarillo-area and South Plains.
Cameron Vallejo, Tascosa, RB, Jr.
Tascosa moved to 2-1 in District 2-5A Division I action behind a 64-21 blowout win at Lubbock High on Friday night. The Rebels chewed up the Westerners rushing for over 400 yards as a team. Highlighting the big night on the ground for the Rebels was junior back Cameron Vallejo. Vallejo made the most of 11 carries finishing with 190 yards with four touchdowns.
Hudson Swan, Spearman, RB-LB, Sr.
Swan did everything but serve popcorn at halftime during the Spearman Lynx dominating 65-26 home win against Highland Park in the District 1-2A Division I opener. Swan carried the Lynx ending his night 426 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns. Swan ran the ball nine times for a game-high 230 yards with four TDs, he had a touchdown catch for 39 yards and threw a 27-yard score. Swan was far from done, he also returned a punt 77 yards for paydirt and had an interception on defense.
Jacob Trevino, Tulia, QB, Sr.
Tulia pulled off one of the bigger wins of Week 7 by handling previously unbeaten Olton 54-36 in a District 2-2A Division I opener. Trevino was on his game on a near perfect passing night going 22-of-24 for 337 yards with four touchdown tosses. He also ran the ball 20 times for 139 yards with two more scores.
Jet Cervantes, Canadian, ATH-LB, Sr.
Cervantes was the Swiss Army Knife for the Wildcats, who got back to their winning ways in a 49-7 road victory at Friona. Cervantes played over 100 snaps in the game. Offensively, the senior carried the ball 22 times for a career-high 245 yards with three touchdowns, and was in on eight tackles defensively. Cervantes was also a big part of the Canadian special teams unit.
Coy and Tak Miller, Farwell, QB-RB
The brother duo of Coy and Tak Miller took matters into their own hands that helped lift the Steers past Hale Center 37-28 for a key District 2-2A Division I victory. Between Miller boys, the two rushed for a total of 216 yards with three touchdowns. Coy toted the rock 27 times for 109 yards with a pair of TDS while Tak went for 109 yards on eight carries with a touchdown. Tak also threw for 140 yards with two touchdowns.

Phoenix Sherwood, Randall, WR, Sr.
Randall’s speedster blistered the Pampa secondary during the Raiders 61-17 win Friday night in a District 2-4A Division I game. Sherwood wasn’t going to be stopped anytime he had the ball in his hands as he tallied five catches for 140 yards with three scores. Randall is now 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the league.
Zachary Linton, Palo Duro, DL, Sr.
Palo Duro had another impressive team performance with the Dons blanking Lubbock Coronado 55-0 during a District 2-5A Division II game Thursday. The Dons defense suffocated the Mustangs to under 100 yards of offense and forced four turnovers. Linton did his job getting into the backfield with five total tackles, 1.5 sacks and blocked two punts.
Calan Graves, West Texas High, WR-DB, Soph.
It wasn’t easy but the West Texas High Comanches were able to sneak past Bovina 44-38 to earn a win in the District 1-2A Division II opener Friday. The speedy Graves became a go-to target for QB Brady Layne snagging a team-high seven catches for 154 yards with three touchdowns.
Kolt Micheletti, Abernathy, QB-RB, Jr.
Making the transition to quarterback the past couple of weeks, Micheletti brought a spark to the Abernathy offense helping lead the Antelopes to their first win of the year in a 22-15 upset of rival New Deal in a District 3-2A Division I opener. It the first win for under first-year head coach Keith Bloskas. Before leaving in the fourth quarter with an injury, Micheletti threw for 103 yards with a touchdown and ran for 119 yards with another score.
Isaac Acosta, Boys Ranch, QB, Sr.
Boys Ranch whipped up on Wildorado 82-24 on Thursday to improve to 6-0 for the first time in school history. Acosta is one of the leaders of this much improved Roughriders team leading by his play on the field. Against the Mustangs, Acosta was superb once more going 7-of-11 for 175 yards with three touchdown passes. He also ran for 44 yards with two more TDs.
