District play in Class 5A Division I and Division II gets going on Thursday and Friday across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. THURSDAY’S GAMES

DISTRICT 2-5A DIVISION I

Frenship (1-2, 0-0) at Tascosa (1-2, 0-0), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
Humongous district opener for these two as the winner of this one takes a massive step toward contending for a district title. The losing team quickly finds itself in a fight just to make the playoffs. During non-district both teams played stinkers and both teams had moments in the sun. If Rebs avoid allowing big plays in the passing game this one is theirs on Homecoming night. … Tascosa 21, Frenship 14.

CLASS 4A

Randall (4-0) at Waco University (2-2), 7 p.m., Bulldogs Stadium, Burkburnett
This is one of three games over two days at neutral sites involving Canyon ISD schools before taking a week off prior to district play. Randall is coming off a thrilling 35-28 overtime won over Canadian where the Raiders overcame a 14-point halftime deficit, as running back Drayden Ray took over for the injured Hendrix Funk at quarterback and carried Randall offensively in the second half, throwing a touchdown and running for two more, including the game-winner in overtime. University, meanwhile, has lost two straight. The streaks will continue. … Randall 31, University 21.

Canyon (3-1) vs. Sanger (4-0), 7 p.m., Leo. Brittain Field, Lions Stadium, Vernon
Like Randall, Canyon is on a winning streak with three in a row. The Eagles looked solid on both sides of the ball in beating Lubbock-Cooper 49-24. Canyon was balanced on offense and quarterback Brox Hacker was literally perfect, completing all 10 of his passes for 194 yards. Hacker’s Sanger counterpart, Austin Martin, averages over 100 yards a game both passing and running and the Indians are averaging 350 yards a game rushing in going undefeated. The Eagles have shown they can withstand a ground attack. … Canyon 30, Sanger 24.

CLASS 1A

Memphis (1-3) at McLean JV, 7 p.m.
The Cyclones aren’t ready to play with the juggernauts of Six-Man football but they are getting better and winning feels good for a really young team. … Memphis 55, McLean JV 6.

Amarillo PCHEA (1-3) at Lefors (1-3), 7 p.m.
A rough start to the season with a tough schedule will have the Pirates ready for district action in a few weeks. Another win under their belt will have them feeling confident. … Lefors 68, Amarillo PCHEA 24.

Holy Cross Catholic Academy (1-1) at San Jacinto Christian Academy (2-3), 7 p.m.

Lubbock Titans (2-2) at Boys Ranch (4-0), 7 p.m.

If the bye week perked up a Caprock offense that enters district having scored one TD the past two games this one could be interesting because Monterey has allowed 35, 42 and 49 points in games this year. Legacy is having its best season since opening its doors three year ago with the catalyst being third-year starting QB Knox Hodges (son of former Hereford great Slade Hodges) and his 17 TDs, 1,300 yards passing and 2 INTs. But these talented Dons have settled in and will start defense of their district title with an impressive road win. … Palo Duro 44, Legacy 14.

Wichita Falls Memorial (2-2, 0-0) at Abilene Cooper (2-2, 0-0), 7 p.m., Shotwell Stadium, Abilene
A really interesting one here. Both teams 2-2. Cooper rides a two-game win streak into this one with wins over 6A schools SA Central and Odessa High. Memorial has cranked out 116 points the past two games going 1-1 in those. Go with Cooper in a crazy tight one. … Cooper 38, Memorial 35.

West Plains (2-2) vs. Stephenville (4-0), 7 p.m., Lubbock-Cooper
This will be a rubber match between these two programs who are meeting for the first time in the regular season after splitting two playoff games, with West Plains winning in 2024 and Stephenville returning the favor last year. West Plains is coming off a tough 29-28 loss to Lubbock-Cooper Liberty last week on a last-minute two-point conversion. Stephenville has scored over 40 points in three games to go unbeaten. The Wolves will come out of this a better team, but it won’t help their record. … Stephenville 38, West Plains 31.

Bushland (2-2) at Hereford (2-2), 7 p.m.
The winner will move above .500 for the season as the two teams come into this one from opposite directions. Hereford has suffered two straight losses after opening with a pair of wins, while Bushland is hitting its stride offensively after opening with two straight losses. Offensive numbers indicate that this should be a high-scoring game, so it will be fun to watch. It will likely come down to who will make a late stop, and that looks like the homestanding Whitefaces, who also look to boast more all-around depth. … Hereford 31, Bushland 28.

Canadian (2-2) at Pampa (0-4), 7 p.m.
These two teams have fallen on hard times recently, but withing drastically different contexts. A young Pampa team is simply looking for any good news before starting district after losing to rival Borger last week, as Borger got its first win since 2024. Canadian, meanwhile, has been plagued by injuries, especially to quarterback Weston Mitchell and failed to hold on to second-half double digit leads in losses to Shallowater and Canadian. The Wildcats at least have some confidence, which is enough this week. … Canadian 33, Pampa 15.

Borger (1-3) at Dalhart (3-1), 7 p.m.
Borger finally has some momentum going into a game for the first time in nearly two years, as the Bulldogs beat their archrival Pampa 30-20 last week, guaranteeing they won’t go winless for a second straight year. They face a tough task at Class 3A Dalhart, as the Wolves are off to a strong start, especially offensively, and have shown that they can compete with schools in larger classifications. That and homefield advantage should give Dalhart a decided edge and a victory. … Dalhart 34, Borger 21.

Plainview (2-2) at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (4-0), 7 p.m.
This is another game which could potentially light up the scoreboard. Plainview survived a 41-35 shootout against Lubbock Coronado last week to pull even on the season at .500. Liberty continues to be a model fledgling program, as the Patriots pulled out a scintillating win at West Plains with a late two-point conversion. As entertaining as this game should be, Liberty has too much momentum and homefield advantage to sell short. … Liberty 35, Plainview 28.

Perryton (2-2) at Guymon, Okla. (2-2), 7 p.m.
Perryton goes across the border, but not far in a matchup between a pair of .500 teams. The Rangers are smarting from a 56-20 loss at Vernon last week which likely made them go back to work on some issues. Guymon has played two Texas Panhandle schools the last two weeks, losing to West Texas High and beating Sunray. Perryton has some incentive, so the Rangers will ride their bus back across the state line with a record over .500. … Perryton 41, Guymon 21.

Lubbock Estacado (4-0) at Pecos (3-1), 7 p.m.
This is one in which both participants are in the state, but it’s a long trip for Estacado. The Matadors have been as dominant as any team offensively, averaging 51 points a game in going undefeated. Pecos won three straight games to open the season before falling to San Angelo Lake View last week. While it’s a long trip, it’s not long enough to slow down Estacado en route to another victory. … Estacado 48, Pecos 19.
