Off the heels of bringing the Texas Tech Lady Raiders back to national prominence, Bailey Maupin added another accoladed to a very stacked trophy case by winning the 19th Dick Bynum Award presented by the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club on Tuesday,.
The special honor goes annually to the most outstanding Amarillo-area female college athlete.
“This is a great honor,” Maupin said. “Being from the Texas Panhandle and getting to be a part of something that gives back to women’s sports is always an honor. All of the women that were finalist were proud to be here like I was and I’m happy I’m able to join this list with names like Lexy Hightower.”

Maupin, who led the Gruver Lady Hounds to two UIL Class 2A state championships (2020 and 2022), recently graduated from Texas Tech and ended her incredible four-year career as a Lady Raider. From entering as a freshman into a struggling program, Maupin has helped head coach Krista Gerlich turn the tides for the Lady Raiders. This past season with Maupin as the leader, Texas Tech won 26 games and won its first NCAA Tournament game since 2005.
“Coming in and talking to coach Gerlich we knew we all had to get on the same page,” Maupin said. “We knew we had an uphill battle to rebuild the program, so to be able to start that turnaround and leave my legacy and get the program back to where I think it should be is something I’ll cherish forever.”
Maupin led the Lady Raiders in points per game (15.2), free throws (129), threes (69), double-figure scoring games (29) and 20-plus point games (6). Second on the team in assists (89) and third in steals (53), Maupin earned her fourth All-Big 12 honor after being named to the All-Big 12 First Team in March.
Maupin will go down as one of the best, ranking in the top-10 of the record book in the following categories: second in 3-pointer attempts (618), third in free throws made (486), third in free throw percentage (.835), fourth in career scoring (1,825 points), fourth in 3-pointers made (199), fifth in free throw attempts (582), seventh in field goal attempts (1,422) and 10th in field goals made (570).
Maupin is the is the third female athlete from Texas Tech to receive this honor, and the first Gruver recipient.
For winning this honor, Gruver High School will receive a check for $1,000 that will go toward the women’s athletic department.
The other finalists for 2026 Dick Bynum award were Canyon graduate and now WTAMU volleyball player and Amarillo High graduate Currie Marusak; Amarillo High graduate and University of Central Arkansas track athlete Symone Quiles; Randall graduate and Mid-American University soccer player Kealy Juarez; Caprock graduate and Lakeland University wrestler Niyasia McCampbell.
