In one of the better small school track and field meets of the spring, the White Deer Bucks and Clarendon Lady Broncos were able to clinch team titles with quite the performances on Wednesday afternoon at Bucks Stadium.
The Bucks won the boys championship with 124.5 points holding off second place Clarendon (101 points).
Talented runner Caynden Mynear set the bar for White Deer during the afternoon leaving the stadium with four gold medals Mynear started his day by clearing 6-feet in the high jump. During the running portion of the meet, Mynear won a pair of long distance events hitting the gold medal stand in the 800-meter run clocking a 2:06.03, and then won the 1600-meter race with a 4:56.92. Mynear then ended his fantastic day as part of the mile relay team that ran a gold medal time of 3:36.43.

Teammate Izaya Chavez chipped in with a gold medal leap of 9-6 to win the pole vault, and Braxton Brown grabbed gold in the triple jump popping off a 41-3 3/4.
Clarendon also had a superb meet highlighted by speedster Don’Jae Orr. Orr turned on the jets to win the 100-meter dash with an 11.28, and was a part of the Broncos gold medal winning relay teams. Clarendon won the sprint relay (43.90) and the 800-meter relay (1:32.12). On top of his three gold medals, Orr earned a silver in the long jump (19-6 1/2).
On the girls’ side, the Clarendon Lady Broncos stacked up 129 points to beat second place Silverton (100 points). Coming off a strong showing at the 75th Amarillo Relays Meet of Champions, Madi Benson led the Lady Broncos on Wednesday. Benson won the 800-meter run with 2:26 to hold off McLean’s Gracee Henderson (2:30.46). Benson went on to earn her second gold medal in the 1600-meter with a 5:40.64.
To cap off her big afternoon, Benson was apart of the gold medal mile relay team that won with a 4:27.81. On top of Benson’s outing, the Lady Broncos made it a clean sweep in the relays. The sprint relay team won gold with a 52.03, and the 800-meter relay team found the gold medal stand thanks to a 1:54.94.
If there was an MVP to the meet Wednesday, that definitely went to Silverton’s Maddie Francis. Francis won four individual gold medals and a silver in the sprint relay accounting for 50 of the Lady Owls points.
Francis is one of the top hurdlers in West Texas and all of Class 1A and she showed why. Francis swept the hurdle events with ease, taking gold in the 100-meter with a new top season time of 15.21. The senior then breezed to another gold in the 300-meter hurdles with another season-best time of 46.34. Francis was also part of a silver medal sprint relay team clocking a 53.19.
In the morning field events, Francis was able to win two more golds by clearing 4-8 to take home a victory in the high jump, and leaping to gold in the long jump (16-4).
McLean’s Hailo Moon put on a strong day individually in the field events. Moon went double gold tossing a 36-1 1/2 to claim the shot put title, and a 101-11 to win gold in the discus.
