Amarillo High Lady Sandies, West Plains Lady Wolves advance, as does Pampa Harvesters and Dumas Demons in UIL high school soccer bi-district round

Amarillo High blanks Abilene High

The UIL high school soccer opening round of the playoffs got underway Thursday and Friday on very hot playing surfaces across West Texas.

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies picked up where they left off district play by handling Abilene High 7-0 in a Class 5A Division I bi-district matchup at Lubbock-Cooper.

The Lady Sandies are now 21-2-1 overall and will take on El Paso High in the area round at noon, Tuesday, at Midland’s Astound Broadband Stadium.

AHS cruised against the Lady Eagles with Sofia Pepper leading the way. Pepper pulled off the hattrick, scoring three goals in the match and tacked on an assist. Teammate Sophia Hernandez also finished with a hattrick of her own with an assist, and Kinsley Demetro scored the other goal for the Lady Sandies.

West Plains gets thrilling win over Mineral Wells

After going scoreless through regulation and two overtimes, the West Plains Lady Wolves were able to outlast Mineral Wells, winning in a shootout (4-3) to claim a thrilling UIL Class 4A Division I bi-district championship Thursday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

The match was scoreless after regulation and remained that way through two overtimes. In the shootout, West Plains goalie Bailey Dobrowolski made two huge saves that went with her clean sheet on the afternoon. Abby Silvestre, Katie Stalter, Chloe Few all made goals for the Lady Wolves during the shootout, with Dobrowolski then stepped up with the game-winning goal for the exciting victory.

West Plains (18-5-1) is headed to the area round of the playoffs to take on San Elizario at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland.

In one other girls soccer note. A year after winning the UIL Class 4A Division II state championship, the Randall Lady Raiders were defeated in a shootout (3-0) by Graham in the bi-district round.

Pampa shuts out Graham

In boys’ action, the Pampa Harvesters were able to get a shutout of Graham 3-0 to win the UIL Class 4A Division II bi-district round Friday at Happy State Bank Stadium.

The Harvesters (14-3-5), the District 4-4A champions, will now go up against Bowie at 4 p.m. Tuesday, at Midland’s Astound Broadband Stadium.

In the win against the Steers, Evin Torres, Ismael Perez and Fernando Calderon all scored goals for the Harvesters.

Dumas downs Mineral Wells

The Dumas Demons were able to cruise by Mineral Wells thanks to a 6-2 win in the UIL Class 4A Division I bi-district title Thursday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

Shukran Muhinido paced the Demons with a hattrick and added two assists for a huge game. Teammate Santiago Vega had two goals and Jesus Aguayo chipped in a goal with an assist.

Dumas (14-5-7) advances to the area round for a matchup with El Paso Ysleta at 3 p.m. Monday, at Midland’s Astound Broadband Stadium.
