Thursday and Friday’s quick hits

Nazareth keeps on rolling

The Nazareth Swiftettes quest for back-to-back state championships looks to be in full tact after dismantling White Deer 83-29 to win the UIL Class 1A Division I regional quarterfinal championship Thursday night at the Tascosa Activity Center.

The Swiftettes (27-6) have now won eight straight playoff games dating back to last season, and are advancing to the regional semifinals for a matchup with Guthrie (31-3) at 6 p.m. on Monday on the campus of Lubbock-Cooper Liberty High School.

Nazareth came out of the gates hot against the Does (20-12) building a 29-13 first quarter advantage. Standout Kambri Cleavinger couldn’t miss in that opening frame, pouring in 13 of those points.

The Swiftettes continued to cruise from that point forward, going up 45-20 at half and then building a 67-26 lead after three quarters.

Cleavinger finished the game, scoring a game-high 26 points. Teammate Lexi Ramaekers chipped in 14. In defeat, White Deer’s Madi Henderson tallied 16 points.

Frenship takes down Southlake Carroll

The Frenship Lady Tigers have been on fire in 2026, and that has carried on in the playoffs. Frenship jumped out to a hot start and never looked back to take down Southlake Carroll, 55-46, to win the UIL Class 6A Division II regional quarterfinal championship Friday night at the Moody Coliseum on the campus of Abilene Christian.

The Lady Tigers, who advanced to a program-best fourth round in Class 6A a year ago, are now back in the third round for a second straight year. Frenship (29-8) will see if it can keep the momentum rolling when they take on Rock Hill (22-13) in the regional semifinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Abilene Wylie High School.

Frenship Started off strong against a very talented Lady Dragons (31-2) team Friday, taking a 14-9 lead after one. By halftime, the Lady Tigers build that advantage to 32-20 and then were in complete control after three quarters up 47-32.

Frenship standout post Jada Jackson did her damage inside, scoring a team-high 17 points, knocking down seven field goals while going 3-of-5 from the charity stripe. Teammate Madison Phillips had six key points in the third quarter on the way to 15 on the night and Addisyn Bollinger finished with 12.

Thursday and Friday’s top performers

  • Miami’s fantastic freshman Brylee Thompson couldn’t be stopped, posting a game-high 33 points to get the Lady Warriors by Hartley 72-56 in a UIL Class 1A Division I regional quarterfinal clash.
  • Freshman Mikah Henderson stepped up big during Lubbock-Cooper Liberty’s 72-21 win over Bridgeport, tallying a game-high 27 points.
  • Wellington’s Taytum Kane had a sensational game against New Deal with 27 points as the Lady Skyrockets blasted the Lady Lions 62-32.
  • Palo Duro’s Braya Smith lit up El Paso Hanks for 20 points as the Lady Dons are cruising to the Class 5A Division II regional semifinals thanks to beating Hanks 87-45.
  • Payton Merkel is playing more like a senior than a freshman in her first two playoff games. Merkel was clutch, scoring 22 points to lift the Lady Hounds past Farwell 57-41.
  • Tascosa has been unstoppable so far through the first two rounds of the Class 5A Division I playoffs. Through two games, the Lady Rebels are averaging over 80 points. During a 62-20 drubbing of El Paso Chapin on Thursday, Alex Carter led the way with 16 points.
  • Behind 19 points from freshman Chloe Brown, Randall rolled past Clint Mountain View 63-14 in the Class 4A Division II regional quarterfinals.
  • Canyon soared to another playoff win, beating up El Paso Riverside 88-25. Kambrie Graser had it going for the Lady Eagles by posting a team-high 19 points.
  • Idalou is playing really good basketball and that continued during a 75-24 blasting of Stanton in the Class 3A Division II regional quarterfinals. Karsyn Lutrick was the key cog for the Lady Wildcats, pouring in 19 points.
  • Alexandra Morales stepped up big to keep Texline red-hot, dropping in a game-best 23 points behind three, 3-pointers in a Lady Tornadoes 77-17 victory against Groom.
