The highly anticipated District 3-4A got underway Thursday with district openers across the Texas Panhandle.

The West Plains Lady Wolves hosted Borger in a battle of two teams with district title aspirations. Borger controlled much of the opening half, but West Plains controlled the key moments, pulling away in the second half, for a 4–2 district-opening victory.

The Lady Bulldogs dictated the tempo early, holding possession and forcing West Plains to defend much of the first half, Despite the sustained pressure, Borger was unable to capitalize, as the Lady Wolves bent but never broke.

Borger appeared to break through with 10:30 remaining in the first half, when Hadley Reid found the net, but the goal was waved off due to an offsides call. Six minutes later, West Plains took the advantage, with Tristan Chambers putting a ball in the back of the net, to give the Lady Wolves a 1–0 advantage late in the first half.

That score held through halftime, sending West Plains into the break with a narrow margin.

Borger responded immediately after halftime, when Riley Lumpkin scored the equalizer, tying the match at 1–1.

That window closed quickly though with West Plains reclaiming the lead 2-1 not 3:30 minutes later on a goal by Lydia Aikman. With 29:41 left in the game, the Lady Wolves struck again, with Charleigh Jackson netting a goal, giving the Lady Wolves some breathing room up 3-1.

Borger continued to fight, and with 18 minutes remaining, Chelsea Medina delivered a long-range goal for Borger, cutting the deficit to 3–2, however, West Plains had an answer. With only 9:31 left in regulation, Averie Alvarado scored the Lady Wolves fourth goal, pushing the margin back to two, and effectively ending any chance of a Borger comeback.

West Plains is now 7-3 overall and 1-0 to start District 3-4A play. Borger falls to 4-1-2 overall and begins district play at 0-1.

Caprock outlasted Amarillo High in key 3-5A match

District 3-5A is well underway with action continuing last week.

In one of the bigger matchups Thursday, Caprock battled Amarillo High at Dick Bivins Stadium with first place in District 3-5A on the line, and the Longhorns delivered a statement performance.

After weathering an early goal from the Sandies, Caprock pulled away in the second half, to secure a 4–1 victory, remaining undefeated in district play, while handing AHS its first district loss of the season.

The Sandies wasted little time asserting itself, striking in the opening minutes to grab an early 1–0 lead, which it would hold for most of the first half. Caprock responded with steady pressure, but didn’t break through, until the closing minutes of the first half, when Colin Cady, for the Longhorns, was able to score the equalizer, with 4:45 left in the fist half, and tie the game at 1-1, heading into halftime.

The second half belonged to Caprock.

The Longhorns controlled possession, and dictated the pace, in the second half, which resulted in three goals by Caprock. Two of those came from Luis Davila and one by Alan Carrasco, giving the Longhorns a commanding 4-1 lead, shutting the door on any AHS attempt at a comeback.

The Longhorns secured a 4–1 win keeping them atop the league standings, as Caprock is now 6-0-2 overall and 4-0 in district action. The Sandies falls to 5-3-1 Overall, and 3-1 in District 3-5A.
