Holy Cross Catholic Academy handles Kingdom Prep

The Holy Cross Catholic Academy Mustangs have picked up where they left off last season. On Thursday night, the Mustangs bullied Lubbock Kingdom Prep for a lopsided 72-25 victory.

HCCA is rolling so far through TAPPS District 1-2A, staying at a perfect 10-0 in TAPPS District 1-2A while moving to 18-8 on the season.

Swingman Willy Atak, one of Amarillo’s most underrated players, was a key cog in the win over Kingdom Prep, scoring 15 points. Teammate Kon Deng followed with 14.

Dalhart edges Canadian in overtime

Dalhart bounced back from a tough loss at Bushland by getting a huge 56-50 overtime thrilling win at home against Canadian on Thursday night.

Dalhart led 50-48 before Canadian’s Jet Cervantes hit a shot to tie up, 50-50, with 2.6 to play in the fourth quarter, sending the contest to overtime. In overtime, Talon Garcia was clutch for the Golden Wolves, pouring in four of his game-high 27 points to help lead Dalhart to the win.

On top of Garcia’s outstanding 27-point performance, teammate Hunter Trusler added 10 points. Canadian’ Riggs Pennington had a team-high 16 points.

Dalhart is now 2-1 in District 1-3A and 19-4 overall. The Wildcats slip to 2-1 as well in the league and 11-6.

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

  • Wellington’s Jimmy Cantu went off for a season-high 36 points as the Skyrockets blasted Highland Park 103-23.
  • Behind Corbin Taylor’s 31 points, the Valley Patriots stayed perfect in district after beating up Guthrie 71-34.
  • Bushland’s Jenner King had the hot-hand with 27 points that soared the Falcons past River Road 65-48.
  • Bo Bradley and Rett Wann combined for 53 points during Texline’s 117-38 rout of Hartley. Bradley posted a game-high 27 points with Wann adding 26 points.
  • Canyon’s Clayton Wilcox put together a great game, scoring 23 points, knocking down three, 3-pointers, to lift the Eagles past Hereford 80-41 on Friday.
  • Raine Walsh made his return to Childress after transferring back from PHH Prep High School in Arizona. In his regular season debut, Walsh posted a game-high 23 points that pushed Childress towards a hard-earned 76-74 victory against Tulia.
  • Palo Duro’s Cuda Clayton was the offensive weapon that the Dons needed, as Clayton tallied 22 points during a 61-39 win over Lubbock Coronado.
  • Farwell worked hard down the stretch to pull away from Olton for a key 69-63 win Thursday night. Ruben Molina played his part for the Steers, going for a team-best 25 points. Despite the loss, Olton’s Sebastian Sparkman finished with a game-high 27.
  • Spearman earned a huge District 1-2A win by defeating Stratford 63-48 on Thursday night. Hudson Swan made sure that happened with 16 points.
  • Wheeler is keeping in the playoff mix thanks to Israel Andrade’s 14 points that guided the Mustangs to a 56-46 home victory against Clarendon.
