On the court: The Tascosa Lady Rebels have picked up where they left off last year, and seem to have adjusted well under first-year head coach Zac Tabor. The Lady Rebels are off to a 10-0 start that included a dominant 74-30 win right before the Thanksgiving break last Tuesday. Johnson played outstanding in that win against the Lady Matadors, dropping in 16 points on 60 percent shooting from the field, to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

During this early portion of the season, the Lady Rebels leader is averaging 12 points a contest on 50 percent shooting from the floor. Johnson is also pulling down four boards a game with 2.5 assists and two steals a night.

Head coach Zac Tabor: “Coming into a new job, this veteran team has done a tremendous job of buying into a new foundation of what we want to do. We are playing a different style and everyone is doing their job so far. Devaeh is one those players doing her job. She has been awesome and I love coaching a player like her. She has stepped into a bigger role this year and is going outside even more and playing hard. She is a great teammate and making everyone around her better.”

Johnson: “We’ve all adjusted well with a new coach coming in. We all have played together for a while and have a very close bond on this team. We love coach Tabor and everyone has bought into what he wants to do. I think I’ve gotten better this year at my communication and my leadership. My defense is something I’ve also worked on. I just want my teammates to trust me, because I have complete trust in them.”
