District 2-6A

Who’s in: Odessa Permian, Midland Legacy, Frenship, San Angelo Central

Who’s out: Midland High, Odessa High

Permian (8-1, 4-0): Panthers have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the district, and if they beat Midland, they’ll take the outright district championship.

Legacy (4-5, 3-1): The Rebels will be the district’s No. 2 playoff seed no matter what and will share the district title if they beat Odessa and Permian loses. They could finish tied for second with a loss, but they’ll still get the second seed by virtue of beating both Frenship and Central.

Frenship (4-5, 2-2): Frenship makes the long trek to Central with the winner claiming the district’s No. 3 playoff seed and the loser settling for the fourth seed.

Central (5-4, 2-2): See Frenship. NOTE: Midland would be tied for fourth with the Frenship-Central loser if the Bulldogs beat Permian, but they would lose the head-to-head tiebreaker with both.

District 2-5A Division I

Who’s in: Abilene High, Amarillo High, Tascosa

Who’s alive: Lubbock Monterey, Caprock

Who’s out: Lubbock Coronado, Lubbock High

Abilene High (8-2, 6-0): The Eagles have finished their regular season and will be the district’s undisputed No. 1 playoff seed and outright district champion, earning the right to host a first round playoff game against El Paso Bel Air.

Amarillo High (7-2, 4-1): It’s appropriate that the Sandies will be facing off with perennial Amarillo ISD rival Tascosa at Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday to determine the district’s No. 2 seed and who will host a first round playoff game. The loser will be the No. 3 seed.

Tascosa (6-3, 4-1): It’s appropriate that the Rebels will be facing off with perennial AISD rival Amarillo High at Bivins on Friday to determine the district’s No. 2 playoff seed and who will host a first round playoff game. The loser … you know by now.

Monterey (4-5, 2-3): In the district’s most vital regular season finale, the Plainsmen host Caprock on Thursday with the winner clinching the district’s fourth and final playoff spot and the loser’s season ending a day early.

Caprock (3-6, 2-3): The Longhorns have the biggest challenge this week, having to go to Lubbock to face Monterey and try to come back home with a victory to earn a playoff berth or make the bus ride back home knowing their season is done.

District 2-5A Division II

Who’s in: Palo Duro, Abilene Cooper, Lubbock-Cooper

Who’s alive: Wichita Falls Memorial, Abilene Wylie, Wichita Falls Legacy

Who’s out: Plainview

Palo Duro (8-1, 5-0): Dons have known they’ve been in the playoffs for the last two weeks and know they’ll host a first round playoff game next week. The question is if it will be as a No. 1 or 2 seed, as they host Abilene Cooper on Thursday, with the winner claiming the top seed and the loser the second seed. Regardless, the Dons will finish with no worse than a share of the district championship.

Abilene Cooper (6-3, 4-1): Like Palo Duro, Cooper knows it will host a playoff game next week, Cougars are playing to find out if they’ll make that long bus ride back home as a No. 1 or 2 seed.

Lubbock-Cooper (6-4, 3-3): Pirates have already finished their regular season and clinched the district’s No. 3 playoff seed by virtue of tiebreakers.

Memorial (6-3, 2-3): Memorial will clinch the district’s fourth and final seed with a victory over Legacy. A loss and a Wylie win over Plainview would eliminate Memorial. If Memorial and Wylie both lose, well, TBA.

Wylie (4-5, 2-3): Wylie advances as the No. 4 seed with a win over Plainview and a loss by Memorial. That’s about all that’s clear as far as the Bulldogs are concerned, though. A loss and the Bulldogs are eliminated.

Legacy (2-7, 1-4): The only possible path into the postseason for Legacy is beating Memorial and Plainview beating Wylie. That would create a four-way tie for fourth, and by virtue of head-to-head tiebreakers, Legacy would come out on top.

District 2-4A Division I

Who’s in: West Plains, Randall, Dumas, Canyon

Who’s out: Hereford, Pampa

West Plains (8-2, 4-0): The Wolves are guaranteed the district’s No. 1 seed heading into Friday’s game at Hereford. They’re guaranteed no worse than a share of the district championship.

Randall (7-2, 3-1): Raiders are guaranteed the No. 2 seed by beating Canyon ISD rival Canyon and will share the district title with a win and a West Plains loss. They can still take the No. 2 seed with a loss but fall as low as No. 4 with a lopsided loss.

Dumas (6-3, 2-2): Demons can’t grab any higher than a No. 3 seed even with a win over Pampa due to points tiebreakers. They’re guaranteed of that with a win and if Randall beats Canyon or if Canyon loses no matter what

Canyon (6-3, 2-2): The Eagles still have a crack at the No. 2 seed but they have to beat Randall and Dumas has to lose. If Dumas wins, then Canyon has to beat Randall by at least 11 for the No. 2 seed. A loss guarantees Canyon the No. 4 seed.

District 2-4A Division II

Who’s in: Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, Lubbock Estacado, Levelland

Who’s alive: Perryton, Borger

Who’s out: Nobody

Liberty (8-1, 3-0): Liberty is guaranteed of no worse than a share of the district title. The Patriots will take the No. 1 seed if they beat Levelland, but if not, things could get complicated as there would be a three-way tie between Liberty, Estacado and Levelland for the No. 1 playoff seed, and it would go to point differential.

Estacado (7-3, 3-1): The Matadors have finished their regular season and are awaiting their seeding. If Liberty beats Levelland, Estacado will be the No. 2 seed. Should Levelland win, that would relegate the Matadors to the No. 3 seed.

Levelland (6-3, 2-1): Levelland can throw a monkey wrench into things by beating Liberty. If the Lobos win by 17 or more, they’ll claim the district’s No. 1 seed, otherwise, they’ll have to settle for No. 2, and No. 3 with a loss.

Perryton (3-6, 0-3): The Rangers visit Borger and the mission couldn’t be more clear-cut: Win and come home as the district’s fourth and final playoff team, or lose and get ready for basketball.

Borger (0-9, 0-3): This would be the perfect time for the Bulldogs to notch their first win, as they would wipe out the frustration of the first nine games and go to the playoffs.
