With 20 years in club soccer with High Plains Drifters before Palo Duro, Coach Massie’s most memorable moment was earning “program wins” in his first season—making medal games in all three tournaments and winning two.

Coach Massie’s players describe him as fun, strict, and dedicated. His favorite sports movies are Bull Durham and Tin Cup, and while he’d love to live without social media, Twitter/X is his must-have.
In his office, you’ll hear Hans Zimmer soundtracks mixed with some 80s rock—setting the perfect mood for game planning.
Coaching Philosophy: Nothing is Given, Everything is Earned
The biggest lesson sports have taught him? Nothing is given or fair—sometimes you play your best and still lose, or your worst and win.
His coaching motto: “That’s why we wear shin guards!” He’s excited to see high school soccer getting more coverage in the Texas Panhandle but says there’s still room for growth in media attention.
Goals: Get Better Every Day
Coach Massie’s goal for the season is simple: GET BETTER!
He believes in training on the field, values both offense and defense as a game of transition, and loves running drills like The Wall Game, 3 Grid Game, and 4 vs 3 on top of the 18-yard box.
Community Connections and Lifelong Impact
The best part of coaching in his community? Staying in touch with former players who send him graduation, wedding, and even baby announcements.
