It was a busy week across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains with district cross country meets taking place as teams and individuals are getting set for the UIL Region I which is set for Oct. 20-21 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. Here’s a recap of the past week including Canyon’s dominance in District 4-4A, and the Lubbock Monterey Plainsman and Amarillo High Lady Sandies win in District 3-5A.
District 4-4A
Canyon continued its dominance winning the District 4-4A championship once again as the Lady Eagles totaled ? points to beat rival Randall during the district cross country meet at Canyon High School on Friday morning.
The Lady Eagles, who scored 27 points in the district meet, had a strong team showing placing six individuals in the top 10. Reigning district champion and defending UIL Class 4A state champion, Addyson Bristow, carried on her tremendous season. Bristow led the field from start to finish running away with a time of 10:37.7 to win another individual title. Bristow’s pace was 21 seconds ahead of Dumas’ Emily Gross, who took silver as an individual with a 10:58.8.

Also placing in the top 10 for Canyon was Presli Pool. Pool won the bronze with a third place time of 11:17.7, teammate Crickette Moore was sixth (11:30.9), Aubrey Holloway was eighth (11:37.4), Michaela Sharber placed ninth (11:39.6) and Ella Martinez rounded out the top 10 with a 10th place time of 11:44.2.
The Lady Raiders are also headed back to regionals with 52 points. Randall had three individuals place in the top 10. Rebel Rea was fourth overall (11:25.2), Brooke French followed in fifth (11:30.6), and Nayomi Granados came in seventh (11:31.1).
On the boys side, the Canyon Eagles smoked the competition as expected with 24 total points for the district title.
Domenic Sam Miguel was the individual meet champion edging teammate Noah Cooper. Miguel ran a field-leading time of 15:20.8 with Cooper right behind Miguel clocking a 15.21.6. Teammate Grady Simmons came in fifth with a time of 16:03.9 and Jamison Kirton rounded out the top 10 for the Eagles with a ninth place finish (16:29.2).
Perryton punched a ticket to regional with a second place finish of 60 points. Sensational runner Jacob Erickson had a strong race for the Rangers getting a bronze medal at third overall individually with a time of 15:37.3.

District 3-5A
The Lubbock Monterey Plainsman captured the District 3-5A boys championship with 66 points beating Lubbock High, which finished second as a team with 99 points at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Thursday.
Lubbock High’s Arturo Rodriguez was the 3-5A individual winner clocking an impressive 5K time of 16:04.8 to advance to the regional meet. Leading Monterey was Kason Castillo. Castillo came in sixth overall with a 17:08.2 followed by teammate Jimi Gonzalez’s eight place showing (17:15.9). Logan Clayton (17:52.4) also placed in the top 15 for the Plainsman.
Palo Duro qualified for regional getting third as a team scoring 111 points. Highlighting the Dons outing was Abdihafit Mohamed’s second place individual finish running a superb time of 16:26.4.
In girls action, Amarillo High showed its dominance scoring 44 points to win the District 3-5A crown. The Lady Sandies beat second place and arch-rival Tascosa by 32 points. The Lady Rebels were second in the team race with 76 points.
The Lady Sandies had three place in the top 10 to help win the title. Braylee Cothrin took home a bronze medal for AHS running an impressive 5K time of 20:15.5. Teammate Kinley Davis was right behind Cothrin placing fourth individually thanks to a 20:30.7, and Julie Elizondo came in 10th (20:59.2).
Tascosa’s Ivana Ibarra was the lone Lady Rebel with a top 10 finish coming in ninth overall (20:54.5). Lubbock High’s Amelia Anderson was the District 3-5A individual winner pacing the field with an 18:30.9. Lubbock Monterey’s Hannah Hughes was second (20:03.1).

District 1-3A
The Canadian Wildcats edged the Dalhart Golden Wolves in a thrilling District 1-3A race. The Wildcats scored 35 points to fend off Dalhart which had 37 points for the league title.
Canadian took the top two individual spots. Joseph Dominguez ran a strong three-mile race for the 1-3A championship clocking a 15:59.5. Wildcat teammate Luis Valdez won the silver medal with an 18:13.9. Dalhart saw three individuals place in the top 10. Preston DeMots headed up Dalhart with a sixth place time of 18:39.2. Teammate Aiden Buck was seventh (18:56) and Jayden Solano came in eighth (19:03.9). Tulia also had two runners in the top five.
On the girls side, Dalhart ran away with the team title scoring 27 points. Canadian was second with 63 points. Victoria Terrazas of Dalhart was the 1-3A individual champion running a superb race of 12:07.2. Selah Smith of Childress was second thanks to a 12:39.5. Dalhart teammate Circa Johnson, last year’s district champion, was third getting a bronze medal (12:42.11). Canadian’s Kaylee Richardson led her team getting seventh overall pacing a time of 13:24.6.

District quick hits
Frenship Memorial impressed in its first ever district cross country meet. The Lady Panthers won the district crown with the Panthers getting second overall. The Lady Panthers won with a team score of 23 points. Taylor Sallee led the squad coming in second clocking a 13:14.8. The Panthers were second with a score of 67 points. Memorial’s Brax Hancock led the team with an eighth place finish (17:20.9).
Lubbock Roosevelt made it a clean sweep at the District 2-3A meet. The Roosevelt boys team tallied 36 points with the Lady Eagles scoring 40 points for the championship. On the boys side, Billy Bond of Roosevelt was the individual district champion running a 17:06.2. In the girls race, Jazzy Chavira of Roosevelt clocked a two-mile time of 12:46.7.
At the District 2-6A meet, the Midland Legacy Lady Rebels won the championship with 27 points. Ashlyn Laney of Legacy led a strong team showing winning the race with a 19:47.9. In boys action, it was San Angelo Central coming away with a district title scoring 25 points. Cameron Hash led the Bobcats getting silver (16:31.30). Midland Legacy’s Jaime Flores was the individual winner clocking a 16:07.8.
