On the court: In only their third year as a program, the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty Lady Patriots have taken major steps currently sitting with an impressive 32-2 overall record and are unbeaten in District 5-4A so far. Powerful outside hitter Lexie Allgood is a key cog into that sudden success. In a pair of wins last week Big Spring and Lubbock Estacado, the sophomore sensation combined for 23 kills on 29 attacks with six digs in very limited action.

However, it’s what she has done on the season that really stands out. For the year, Allgood leads Liberty showing off her power with 248 kills to go with 97 digs and 19 blocks.

Coach Katelyn Anderson: “When we played Frenship Memorial at the first of district it brought me back to last year and how our first year was and all that went into it. This is just our third year but this team has been together a long time and we have senior leadership now and players building through the program. That goes such a long ways. We don’t make the errors like we did year one and we are getting better overall. Lexie is a big part of why we’re getting better and improving. She is just a sophomore but just watch her play. I love her to death. She was a freshman on varsity last year but the potential was there. Over the summer you could see how far she had came and I knew she’d be one of are top outside hitters.”

Allgood: “This year has been so much fun so far. I love the fight we all have on this team and the chemistry we have. This is such a fun team to be on because everyone works hard for one another. I just want to get better each and every week and use the confidence that has helped me the most improve. I am playing with a lot of confidence and I’m staying aggressive. I think that’s why I’ve been able to have the success I’ve had and I hope that continues.”
