Taylor Wiseman couldn’t have asked for a better way to end her high school track and field career especially throwing at the school she’ll start her next chapter the next four years.

Wiseman, who recently graduated from Childress High School, put on quite the show at the U-20 and Nike Outdoor National Championships on Hayward Field at the University of Oregon this past weekend competing in both the shot put in discus events.

The soon-to-be Oregon Duck showcased to the school exactly what they are getting as Wiseman impressed by winning the national championship in the Nike Outdoor Championship discus event tossing out an incredible throw of 168-10 beating the elite talent from across the country.

“I was very proud of how I competed,” Wiseman said. “I don’t always say that about myself, but I was about my performance especially in the discus. It did show some of my weaknesses, but it showed a lot of my strengths. It was rainy but that didn’t bother me. It was just very satisfying to win this national championship because just to qualify for the finals you had to throw a 147. That is difficult enough. This just means so much.”

Wiseman opened the weekend getting third in the U20 Division of the discus with a throw in the discus of 167-1. She was also third in the shot put of the Nike Outdoor with a 48-3 1/2.

Competing in this final high school meet, this ties a bow on a complete senior season after Wiseman was a double UIL Class 3A state champion in the discus and shot-put events back in May, even setting a new 3A shot put record of 47-feet-2 inches.

“This was a great way to end my last high school event,” Wiseman said. “I was able to win two state titles, set a record and then come compete against the best across the country and prove myself. I’m now ready to come to Oregon and continue my journey and just keep getting better.”
