Taylor Wiseman, Childress track and field, Sr.

In the ring: Wiseman had a historic outing in her final day competing as one of the best to ever wear a Childress Lady Bobcat uniform at the UIL Class 3A state track and field meet in Austin on Thursday.

The high-profile thrower and University of Oregon signee proved why she is one of the best at all levels of the state setting a new Class 3A state record in the shot put winning her first gold medal with a toss of 47-2. Earlier in the day, Wiseman had set the tone scorching the competition in the discus event to win her second gold medal. Wiseman had six attempts with every one of those going over 154-feet and her best throw measuring at 156-10.

Wiseman ended a storied career and season as the district, Region I-3A, and a state champion in both the shot-put and discus events.

Coach Kolby Pool: “I was just so happy every throw she had was a big-time throw. What makes Taylor so great is she’s never satisfied. She wasn’t satisfied after the discus though she won the gold medal. She took that determination with her to the shot-put and threw with something to prove and it was so special to watch. I had goose bumps when she set that record. That was the throw she had been waiting for and there are many more to come. Taylor is so gifted and has a special drive about her. She is elite and will do big things at Oregon.”

Wiseman: “I was happy with how I performed at the state meet. I don’t say that often but I had a really good day and I’m glad I could end my high school career that way especially after coming up short as a junior. I’m very proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish at Childress doing what I love and I can’t wait to continue my career in college and just get better.”
