Amarillo High sweeps El Paso Chapin
The Amarillo High Lady Sandies keep on pushing through the UIL Class 5A Division I playoffs after getting a two-game sweep of El Paso Chapin on Friday and Saturday in Andrews.
AHS was dominant in both games beating Chapin 7-3 on Friday followed by a 15-6 blistering to complete the sweep Saturday.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]The Lady Sandies (27-8-2) are now headed to the regional semifinals to take on Aledo (27-3) at a time and place to be determined.
AHS was able to open the first game up thanks to a four-run bottom of the third. Mykaela Samuels did her job at the dish going 2-for-4 in the contest with a double and two RBIs. Cienna Perez added a solo shot and Ava Bowers was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Amree Anglin was stout in the circle getting the win going 6.1 innings overcoming nine hits with four strikeouts.
On Saturday, Brylee Baker provided the pop going 3-for-5 including a double to finish the game with three RBIs. Brianna Cloud followed with a 2-for-5 day also driving in two runs.
Class 4A
Dumas destroys El Paso Yselta
Dumas kept its offensive momentum going blasting El Paso Ysleta by a combined 31-2 in a two-game sweep during the UIL Class 4A Division I area on Friday and Saturday.
The Demonettes dominated Ysleta 21-2 in game one and then put a stamp on the series with a 10-0 shutout.
Dumas stacked up 29 hits over the two games. In the opener, Yartiza Vargas was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Teammate Madi Zubia went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs and Lisbeth Quiroz added four RBIs with four hits.
During Saturday’s victory, Aaliyah Chairez had a double to go with three hits driving in four runs. The Demonettes pitching was also outstanding. Star Cortes worked five innings in the opener allowing a hit with seven strikeouts. In the closeout contest, Zubi tossed all six innings with six K’s.
Dumas (32-5) advances to the regional quarterfinals to battle Brownwood with a best-of-three series starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
Class 3A
Muleshoe makes school history downing Lamesa
Muleshoe is headed to the third round of the UIL playoffs for the first time in program history thanks to downing Lamesa in a two-game sweep on Friday and Saturday in Littlefield.
The Lady Mules dismantled Lamesa 14-3 on Friday and then completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory Saturday.
The Lady Mules (23-8) are now ready to take on Jacksoboro in the Class 3A Division II regional semifinals at a time and place to be determined.
Addilene Blanco feasted on Lamesa pitching in Game 1 going 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Adalie Agundis added a double and a triple for four RBIs of her own and threw a complete game in the circle with six strikeouts.
On Saturday, Blanco stayed hot with a 3-for-4 performance adding two more RBIs while Agundis went deep finishing with two RBIs. Agundis also went 3.1 innings of relief without allowing a run with three more K’s.
Bushland blasts Denver City
The tradition continues for Bushland as the Lady Falcons soared to the third round of the playoffs after blistering Denver City with a 23-8 victory and then completed the sweep with a 9-8 win.
The Lady Falcons (20-13) advance to the Class 3A Division I regional semifinals for a matchup with Iowa Park with the best-of-three series beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
Chayney Snelson had a monster series hitting three doubles to go with five RBIs. Charley Spinks was also clutch combining to go 3-for-7 in the series with four RBIs. Farryn McKown was 4-for-4 in the second game hitting a homer with two doubles to drive in four runs.
In the other Class 3A matchup, Childress saw its season come to an end to powerhouse Coahoma 7-0 on Friday.
River Road keeps on rolling
River Road kept on rolling downing Brownfield in a two-game sweep with scores of 10-8 and 4-2 during a UIL Class 3A Division I area round series Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats rallied in Game 1 scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. Ava Sharp homered and doubled for two RBIs and Angi Rivas added two doubles with two RBIs.
In Saturday’s win, Sharp was on point in the circle tossing a complete game allowing five hits with 12 strikeouts. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.
River Road (26-8) is headed to the regional semifinals for a date with Jim Ned at a time and place to be determined.
Playoff quick hits
Not many teams are playing better than Clarendon at the moment as the Lady Broncos stayed hot beating up Hale Center 11-0 and 12-1 to gain a sweep in the UIL Class 2A Division I area round. Kennadie Cummins threw a gem in the circle in the opener garnering a no-hitter over five innings with eight strikeouts. Her twin sister Tandie Cummins was stellar in the close out contest working five innings of one-hit softball with a strikeout. Clarendon (26-5-1) advances to play Bangs in the regional semifinals at a time and place to be determined.
West Texas High leads its Class 2A Division II playoff series with Tahoka 1-0. The series resumes at 1 p.m. Monday in Floydada.
Gruver saw a historic season come to an end in the area round falling to Sundown 16-1 and 22-2. The Lady Hounds finish a great year at 15-10.
Booker was able to advance after beating Crosbyton in a one-game playoff 21-13. The Lady Kiowas (7-7) awaits the Claude-Borden County winner in Class 1A regional semifinals. Borden County leads the series against Claude 1-0 and will resume the series Monday.
