Kenadee Winfrey is ready for one final run in college basketball and she’s ready to do it where it all began.

Winfrey has spent the past four years playing a vital part bringing success to the UNLV women’s basketball program but now she’s ready for her final season to be in front of the home fans recently signing to play her final year at West Texas A&M.

“I really just want to enjoy my last year of playing college basketball,” Winfrey said. “I received so many texts and calls, and the community of Canyon has always been so supportive. I grew up going to WTAMU camps and going to Lady Buff games, so I just can’t wait to play in front of my family and friends.”

Winfrey, the daughter of Canyon Eagles head football coach Todd Winfrey, was a standout for a heralded Lady Eagles basketball program helping lead Canyon to a UIL state championship in 2021.

From there, Winfrey signed pen to paper to showcase her skills at UNLV being a part of four regular season Mountain West Conference champions and three MWC Tournament titles in 85 career games.

Winfrey contributed her freshman and sophomore year before a knee injury sidelined her the majority of her junior campaign. Winfrey came back this past season and was part of a Lady Rebels team that went 26-8, won a MWC regular season title and went two rounds deep in the women’s NIT Tournament.

“I loved UNLV,” Winfrey said. “It’s hard to find student-athletes that stay at one program, but we had that and a coaching staff that did a great job. I was fortunate to have success with UNLV like I grew up with in Canyon and I was able to grow my basketball IQ and stretch my game to play inside and out.”

With one year of eligibility because of a medical redshirt, Winfrey said her decision to sign with the Lady Buffs was an easy one and a quick one.

“It was a very quick conversation with coach (Josh) Prock,” Winfrey said. “We both wanted this to happen and it came together fast over the phone. I love coach Prock and the type of coach he is. He is also big in his faith and a very honest person. I’m excited to also join my former teammates at Canyon. Chloe Callahan played a big role in me coming home and Zoey McBroom is also on the team.”

WTAMU Lady Buff head coach Josh Prock says he is equally as excited to have a player the caliber of Winfrey on board.

“What you get in Kenadee is a very versatile player that can play a lot of different positions,” Prock said. “She has a very high basketball IQ and was coached by the best coming out of high school and at the college level. She can guard multiple positions and can score the basketball from anywhere. Kenadee has always been a winner, and we love her addition to the Lady Buffs. She has so much to bring to this program.”
