Bushland stuns No. 1 Canadian
In one of the biggest surprises Tuesday night, the Bushland Lady Falcons pulled off the upset of No. 1-ranked Canadian by defending their homecourt getting a thrilling 55-44 victory on Tuesday night.
Canadian suffers its first loss on the year falling to 30-1 overall and 7-1 in District 1-3A. The Lady Falcons (16-13 overall) are a game back of the Lady Cats and Dalhart for first place in the league at 6-2.
This was a very close contest throughout with Bushland leading 22-18 at half only to see the Lady Cats take a 40-38 advantage after three. It was the Lady Falcons that stepped up in the fourth quarter dominating Canadian 17-4 to get the huge win.
Berklee Billington led Bushland with a game-high 17 points. Freshman Haven Pointer followed with 12 and Charley Spinks chipped in 11. Canadian’s Elyse Beck poured in 14.
Tuesday’s top performers
Sadie Sanchez of Randall went off for 32 points behind five 3-pointers as Randall gets a big win at West Plains 62-52 moving within a game of second place of the Lady Wolves.
Tascosa’s Tryssa Dowd was clutch on the road helping the Lady Rebels hold off Lubbock-Cooper 50-41.
Stratford’s Addison Bell was a tough assignment for the Gruver Lady Hounds as Bell posted a game-high 20 points in the Lady Elks 60-39 win.
Caprock earned its first District 3-5A victory on the season beating Lubbock Coronado 48-45 behind Mariah Majia’s 14 points.
River Road picked up its first win of District 1-3A play taming Tulia 33-21. Neveah Winn was stellar for the Lady Wildcats scoring a team-high 11 points while pulling down 11 boards for a double-double.
Pampa put itself back into playoff position getting a much-needed win against Perryton 48-46. Cambree Dyer did all she could to help earn that victory with 21 points.
Joie Read of Dalhart dropped in a game-high 20 points that helped the Lady Wolves knock off Childress 66-36. The Lady Wolves also move into a first-place tie with Canadian in District 1-3A.
Canyon’s Jaylee Moss continued her superb season scoring 19 points as the Lady Eagles have clinched at least a share of the District 4-4A championship soaring past Dumas 80-21.
Kelton has gotten red-hot over the past two days with wins over Fort Elliott 26-21 then Booker 42-26 on Tuesday. Sha’Lee Dougherty did the damage against Booker with 12 points for Kelton.
