Monterey downs Tascosa in 2-5A showdown 

It wasn’t the way Tascosa wanted to start a big week of District 2-5A action.

With Amarillo High looming Friday, the Lady Rebels were unable to pull off the season sweep of a very talented Lubbock Monterey squad falling on the road 60-44 on Tuesday night.

The Lady Plainsman (29-4 overall) gained a measure of revenge from a loss to Tascosa in the first meeting. Monterey also keeps pace with Amarillo High atop the district standings at 12-1.

The Lady Rebels (26-4) fall to 10-2 in league play and now turn their attention to crosstown rival AHS on Friday.

The second quarter was the difference in Tuesday’s contest. Tascosa led 12-11 after the first quarter until the Lady Plainsman took control late in the second to go up 26-22 at the half.

In the second half, Monterey kept its foot on the gas building a 42-32 advantage by the end of three and never looking back.

Top Division I prospect Aliyah Chavez finished with a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Plainsman. Tascosa’s Alex Carter poured in 12 points with teammates Emily Sims and Tryssa Dowd each scoring 10.

Tuesday’s top performers 

Tyler Held posted a game-high 18 points to help the Amarillo High Lady Sandies to a convincing 55-27 win against Lubbock High.

Randall knocked off Dumas 66-29 with Tatum Gibson doing the dirty worked pulling down a game-high 19 rebounds in the win for the Lady Raiders.

Canyon’s Kambrie Graser lit up Perryton for 26 points as the Lady Eagles soared to an 83-11 victory.

Behind Kammi Maddox’s game-high 23 points, the Dalhart Lady Wolves defeated River Road 61-23.

Dane’ja Agu-White dropped in 20 points during a West Plains 54-45 home win over Hereford.

Avery Cathey shot the ball well tallying 23 points as the Panhandle Ettes dismantled Wheeler 70-21.

Farwell’s Makylee Baldwin continued her stellar season posting a team-high 22 points in a 76-42 victory against Hale Center.

Bentley Brooks was the offensive spark Miami needed scoring a game-high 23 points in a 41-36 win against Kelton.

Elia Alonso’s 18 points lifted Hartley to a much-needed 33-22 win against Pringle-Morse.

San Jacinto Christian Academy stayed unbeaten in district by destroying Lubbock All Saints 79-23. Senior Harlie Brabham did her damage pouring in a game-high 14 points.
