District 1-2A

Vega opens district in style 

Just four years into the program and the Vega Lady Longhorns are making major noise.

Behind a packed home crowd Tuesday night, Vega fed off that fan energy opening District 1-2A play by making a statement getting a convincing sweep of West Texas High 25-20, 25-11, 25-15.

When the Lady Longhorns started volleyball only four short years ago the Lady Longhorns mustered only one win. After Tuesday’s victory, Vega picked up its 27th win of this year moving to an impressive 27-5 overall and 1-0 in District 1-2A. WT High (19-10) falls to 0-1 in the league.

Raelyn Calhoun dictated the offense throughout the match with 26 assists and led the back row with 11 digs. Tayson Schenk and Jaz Martinez showed their power at the net combining for 24 kills. Martinez had a game-high 15 kills and seven digs with Schenk adding nine kills and two blocks.

WT High’s Dixie Reiswig registered a team-high 12 digs.

Sanford-Fritch survives Highland Park 

In one of the more entertaining matches Tuesday, Sanford-Fritch and Highland Park didn’t disappoint in a District 1-2A opener with the Lady Eagles outlasting the Lady Hornets in five-sets at home, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 15-4.

The Lady Eagles were able to gain the momentum early in the fifth set and pull away for the victory.

Sanford-Fritch (24-4 overall) is now 1-0 in league play. Highland Park (18-16) drops to 0-1.

Emma Williams and Kalynn Roberts played big at the net combining for 35 kills. Williams led the Lady Eagles with 18 while Roberts added 17. Running the offense was Zoe Deatherage who handed out 27 assists.

Tessica Deanda led the Lady Hornets with 16 assists and 12 digs for a double-double. Deanda also added seven kills and four aces.

District 4-4A

Dumas stuns Hereford 

Dumas did a lot of good during a huge home win over Hereford on Tuesday night in a key District 4-4A showdown.

In that 25-19, 25-10, 26-24 victory against the Lady Whitefaces, Dumas avenged a loss to Hereford in the district opener a few weeks ago, put themselves back in playoff contention and snapped a nine-year losing skid to the rival Lady Whitefaces with the last Dumas win coming in 2015.

The Demonettes (19-18) also pull into a fourth-place tie with Hereford (21-16) at 4-4 in the league.

Rylee Schacher was stellar once again for Dumas finishing the game with a double-double. Schacher showed her offense with 12 kills and on defense made 10 digs with 4.5 blocks. Sophie Clements did an excellent job distributing the ball totaling 36 assists and Kennedy Clements led the way with 13 kills.

Hereford’s Madi Madrigal led the team with 12 assists.

Randall, Canyon, West Plains all cruise 

Randall, Canyon and West Plains took care of business on Tuesday night and all stayed in a three-way tie atop the District 4-4A standings.

Randall had no problems with Perryton on Senior Night getting a 25-10, 25-9, 25-13. Canyon soared past Pampa 25-13, 25-20, 25-9, and West Plains bullied Borger, 25-16, 25-7, 25-8.

Randall (22-12), Canyon (20-11) and West Plains (22-11) are all 7-1 in a first-place tie in the district at 7-1.

During the victory against Perryton, Brooke Henderson had an incredible serving night 12 aces and Sidney Soria dished out 23 assists.

Sydnee Winfrey paced the Lady Eagles with nine kills as teammate Landri Jay hit the floor for 15 digs.

Aaniah Kitchen did her part at the net for the Lady Wolves with seven kills and six blocks.

Tascosa takes down Lubbock High 

Tascosa put together another lopsided win breezing past Lubbock High, 25-10, 25-16, 25-8, during a District 3-5A match at home Tuesday night.

Libby Miller and Addison Merrell made sure things went smooth on offense totaling 30 assists. Miller led the team with 18 followed by Merrell’s 12. Saphina Stanley had a team-high eight kills to go with two blocks and defensively Bennet Berryman was solid on the back row with 14 digs with teammate Gabbie Mason hitting the floor for 12.

Tascosa (28-8 overall) improves to 10-1 in district. LHS (13-22) falls to 2-8.

Amarillo High pummels Plainview 

It was another dominating Tuesday night for Amarillo High as the Lady Sandies defended their home court with a sweep of Plainview, 25-15, 25-11, 25-5.

The Lady Sandies get their 30th win on the year improving to 30-6 overall. AHS also stays unbeaten in District 3-5A at 11-0. Plainview drops to 11-21 overall and 1-10 in league play.

Senior outside hitter Sienna Cavalier worked for a double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs. Teammate Bennett Rea had 23 assists.

In two other District 3-5A matchups Tuesday, Lubbock Monterey defeated Caprock 25-20, 25-15, 25-14.

Lubbock-Cooper stayed unbeaten at home knocking off Lubbock Coronado 25-16, 25-15, 25-21.

District 1-3A

Bushland rolls, Friona wins 

Bushland keeps on soaring through the District 1-3A schedule thanks to a soaring sweep of River Road, 25-11, 25-12, 25-13, at home on Tuesday night.

The Lady Falcons run their unbelievable district win streak to 92 straight dating back to 2011. Bushland (33-4) also stays in firm control of the league lead at 3-0. The Lady Wildcats (20-11) fall to 1-2 in district.

Mackenzie Sims continued her stellar play posting a rare triple-double passing out 15 assists to go with 11 kills and 11 digs. Ansley Tiffin followed with a double-double leading the team with 22 assists and chipping in 10 digs.

River Road’s Harlea Adams had 18 digs and Reese DeHart tallied 14 assists with nine digs.

Friona found the win column by beating Dimmitt, 25-14, 25-12, 25-10, on Tuesday.

The Squaws (25-7) are a game back of Bushland in the standings at 2-1 in district action. Dimmitt (3-27) is still seeking its first district win falling to 0-4.

Friona’s Kitzy Welch powered home eight kills in the victory.

District 1-1A

Wildorado, Kelton take home W’s

Wildorado and Kelton stayed on task Tuesday with each team getting needed victories.

The Lady Mustangs protected home court against Shamrock with a four-set win over Shamrock, 25-11, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19.

Wildorado’s Sonell VanWyk was lights out dishing out 25 assists and serving up 10 aces for a double-double. Cacy Cornwell also had a double-double knocking down 20 kills and adding 14 digs.

Kelton knocked off Miami in sweeping fashion, 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.

Neely Davis did everything on offense for the Lady Lions with 16 assists and 10 kills to post a double-double. Audree Nelson led the back row with 18 digs.

Wildorado (6-13) and Kelton (8-6) both move to 3-2 in District 1-1A.

Fort Elliott’s home game with Darrouzett was moved to 6 p.m. on Thursday night.

TAPPS District 1-2A

San Jacinto Christian, Holy Cross Catholic both cruise 

San Jacinto Christian Academy stayed a game back of first place in TAPPS District 1-2A sweeping Lubbock Kingdom Prep at home, 25-16, 25-23, 25-15.

The Lady Patriots are now 29-4 overall and 8-1 in district play. Harlie Brabham continues to dominate with a double-double outing of 16 digs and 10 kills. Blayne Robison led the Lady Patriots with 11 assists.

Holy Cross Catholic Academy took care of crosstown rival Ascension Academy, 25-16, 25-16, 25-8.

Madison Valdez paced Holy Cross with 11 kills and 10 assists to garner a double-double. The Lady Mustangs move to 17-12 overall and 4-5 in the league.
